JOB TITLE: Controls Technician 1 GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The qualified individual will be responsible for new installations, programming, and upgrades of equipment used in the manufacturing of tubing and other related processes. This position requires assisting maintenance technicians with troubleshooting and providing on-call coverage on a rotating basis when necessary. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Adhering to NEC and NFPA 70 standards for electrical installations and workplace safety. - Interpreting and editing electrical schematics in accordance with IEC and JIC standards. - Troubleshooting and installing Motor Control Systems, including 24VDC and 120VAC control voltages, 480VAC to 600VDC operational voltages, and Variable Frequency Drives. - Working knowledge of Connected Components Workbench software. - Programming and troubleshooting PLCs using the Rockwell Software Suite, including RSLogix 500 and Studio 5000. - Designing and modifying HMIs using FactoryTalk View ME or Studio View Designer. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to Controls Supervisor. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None. The average weight of a tool pouch is 18-22 lbs. and the average weight of a tool backpack is 25-30 lbs. Tool pouches are either worn slung over their shoulder or around their waist. Control Technician's utilize a variety of hand positions such as turning, twisting, and pounding. Some tools used by the Control Technician vibrate, cut, and grind. The job is fast paced and the ability to deal with stress is essential. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: The work environment is an indoor manufacturing facility where employees are regularly exposed to loud and prolonged noise. This noise is constant and includes sounds from machinery and overhead cranes, as well as frequent, extremely loud clanging caused by metal tubing colliding during processing. To ensure safety, employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes noise/hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, and leather steel-toed work shoes or boots. Employees work ten-hour shifts and experience regular exposure to hot temperatures ranging from 95°F to 110°F during the summer. Operates fork truck whenever necessary. Operates aerial lift & scissor lift when required to perform work at elevated heights. When working at heights is required the average height is twenty feet. The position combines technical expertise with creative problem-solving, ensuring that exhibitions, educational initiatives, and operational needs are supported by reliable and forward-looking systems. Key Responsibilities Operations and System Maintenance ● Maintain daily readiness of technology systems across galleries and public spaces, including startup/shutdown walkthroughs, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting. ● Provide Level 1 Support for the Museum, including: daily oversight of A/V exhibit technology, including diagnosis, troubleshooting, system or interactive re-booting and other measures when exhibit system computers freeze, lose video, lose audio, lose touch, etc. ● Maintain presence within the exhibit box throughout the day to maintain or adjust volume settings (global volume control) as needed, depending on how many visitors are in the space. ● Coordination with outsourced IT and exhibit partners when on-site troubleshooting is not successful and requires Level 2 Support. ● Document and track performance, incidents, and repairs to ensure consistent uptime and reliability. ● Develop training programs that ensure that various department members are proficient in operating and maintaining lighting, sound, and audio-visual equipment. ● Ensure compliance with safety, accessibility, and sustainability standards in technology operations. ● Develop, implement, document, and maintain effective audiovisual technology maintenance policies, procedures, and programs. To include preventative maintenance on all lighting, sound, networking, video display boards, and other facility audio-visual equipment. Technology Integration and Development ● Integrate and maintain audiovisual, networking, and interactive platforms for both permanent and temporary exhibitions - including Gilcrease's Mobile Guide (mobile web application) ● Support commissioning of the mobile guide and its intergration into the visitors digital collection journey. ● Collaborate with curators, educators, designers, and external vendors to deliver systems that enhance interpretive and educational experiences. ● Oversee technical documentation, Mobile Guide CMS , wiring schematics, and user guides for institutional reference and training. ● Research and pilot emerging technologies to expand visitor engagement Curatorial Support · Collaborate with curatorial team to research and provide direction on audiovisual, computer, and other technology-based elements of artworks and other objects for potential museum display or acquisition, including cost assessments and long-term needs (when relevant) · Support commissioning and contracting of art and exhibition projects that utilize audiovisual, networking, and interactive systems, including communication with living artists, gallerists, and other institutions, as needed · Build and maintain relationships with museum technology engineers and professional peers at other institutions to enhance Gilcrease operations and programs Cross-Departmental Support ● Partner with colleagues across Curatorial, Learning & Community Engagement, Collections, Digi Collections, Visitor Services, Operations, and other departments to ensure technology solutions align with institutional priorities. ● Train and support museum staff in the use of exhibit-related technology and digital platforms. ● Develop cross-training programs that ensure that required staff members are proficient in operating and maintaining exhibit related technology, computer, and phone systems. ● Contribute to long-term planning for digital and technology systems, ensuring scalability and sustainability. Vendor and Infrastructure Management ● Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors for installation, upgrades, and maintenance. ● Coordinate with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to support IT infrastructure, security, and digital operations. ● Monitor performance standards and ensure compliance with contract deliverables. ● Support integration of technology with broader museum systems, including ticketing, membership, and customer engagement platforms. Physical Demands Work Environment The position requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and special events. Work occurs in galleries, control rooms, and technical spaces, with occasional physical demands such as lifting equipment and working at height. The role is integral to creating a seamless and sustainable visitor experience, connecting technical systems to Gilcrease's mission as a welcoming, community-centered museum. Required Qualifications Qualifications Required ● Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (or related field) OR six years of training and progressive responsibility within the audiovisual and information technology fields. ● Proficiency with audiovisual control and signal systems (e.g. Crestron, Extron, Q- SYS ), immersive sound environments, and theatrical lighting. ● Experience maintaining networking and IT systems in operational settings. ● Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills. ● Ability to work in both public gallery spaces and technical back-of-house environments, including low-light conditions and elevated platforms. Skills ● Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, exhibit-related services and technical requirements for the Museum understanding techniques and procedures to repair and maintain all museum technology. ● Possess an understanding of exhibit infrastructure, building technology and audiovisual systems. ● Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and others. ● Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form. ● Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. ● Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results. ● Meet physical demands of the job, which entail climbing, lifting, and carrying. ● Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur. ● Understanding of video board display setups and data connections. ● Ability to read and understand video waveform monitors, audio metering, and electronic schematics. Preferred Qualifications ● 5+ years of experience in AV/IT systems design or support within museums, cultural institutions, or public environments. ● Professional technology certifications (e.g. AVIXA , Crestron, or Q- SYS programming).
