    Eaton's ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Utility Protection and Control Technician. In this role, our technicians work remote, travel up to 3 consecutive weeks at a time, and will work additional hours and occasional weekends when supporting client commissioning activities. Travel is primarily in the Northeast and northern Midwest based on customer requirements. A company vehicle is provided for both business and personal use. The expected annual salary range for this role is $83250.0 ($40.02) - $146,000 ($70.19) a year. **In addition to base salary, you are eligible for per diem and premium pay overtime.** Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. **What you'll do:** As a Utility Protection & Control(P&C) Technician, you'll assist the Lead Technician in conducting technical operations and producing documentation including work plans, isolation plans and functional test plans. This hands-on role involves comprehensive testing and final checkout of installed equipment ensuring the highest standards of safety and reliability. As a P&C Technician, you'll collaborate with the Lead Technician to identify and correct any errors from design or installation, protecting employees, equipment, and the integrity of transmission and distribution systems. + Work around energized "in-service" electrical equipment to perform testing and commissioning activities on reliability upgrades in energized "brownfield" transmission stations and occasionally on distribution system equipment. + Develop isolation plans & procedures for the removal of existing equipment such as protective relays, relay panels, AC/DC panels, battery systems, breakers, transformers, SSVTs, CCVTs, PTs, CTs, linear couplers, etc. Provide technical support for the decommissioning, install, testing, and recommissioning of this equipment. + Communicate technical information to internal and external customers and technical and non-technical personnel. + Assist with testing of substation protection devices and related equipment, including reading / verifying all voltage and current inputs to relays and metering, trip testing, functional verification of all control systems, verification of all devices and equipment alarms, and other similar testing. + Identify and resolve design errors. + Directly witness or perform critical tests such as DC functional trip testing prior to energization and in-service. + Support of field related substation testing and commissioning activities. Plan, perform, coordinate, and supervise on-site testing and commissioning activities as required by project scope. + Provide field engineering support to the electricians in the wiring of the substation protective relaying and control system, verifying against design drawings. + Assist in providing commissioning oversight of substation installations.Engage in ongoing training opportunities as work schedule allows in relevant topics and skills (e.g. end-to-end testing). + Understand the use human performance tools and how and when to apply them, and do so at direction from project leadership. + Support protection and control-related activities on both transmission and distribution level customer assets. **Qualifications:** **Basic Qualifications:** + 2+ years of utility substation relay testing experience OR currently enrolled in a 2-year relay testing technical program (community college or trade school accredited program) or a bachelor program in a related technical field with completion by January 2026. + Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship orsupport for this position. Perform Static testing including, but not limited to Rocket Motor Lot acceptance tests, subscale motor propellant tests, electrical function tests, etc. on any program within the Northrop Grumman suite of products. A successful candidate will work very closely with our site automation engineer, operations, and instrumentation personnel. At Neal, we will need your help maintaining Honeywell Experion (TPS), Safety Manager, Modicon & Rockwell automation systems. You should not be intimidated by challenges, enjoy complex problem-solving, and come prepared to contribute. Below is a list of activities where you can do your part: Perform first-line troubleshooting of the automation systems, including: DCS, SIS, PLCs, Data Historian, Advanced Solutions, and DMZ/PCN layer network You will serve a critical role as the primary interface with the I&E technicians, offering them occasional support while troubleshooting particularly challenging issues or providing specific guidance for capital work. Collaborate daily with operations personnel, helping them troubleshoot process issues, logic, graphics, drawings, etc. Work closely with the site automation engineer, sharing responsibility for the overall reliability of all automation systems. This includes sharing coverage for off-hour support in response to all automation system disruptions on a rotating basis, as well as extended hours during planned and unplanned plant outages.
