Job Summary We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to play a critical role in supporting the organization by providing fast, accurate, and flexible design solutions for customer requests. This role focuses on quick-turn design modifications, custom product development, and translating customer requirements into manufacturable solutions. The ideal candidate has a strong background in mechanical design, sheet metal fabrication, and product development, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment. Key Responsibilities Provide rapid design support for sales inquiries, including custom modifications and new product configurations. Work closely with the sales team to interpret customer requests and translate them into manufacturable product specifications. Develop and modify 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks or similar software. Customize existing designs to meet customer needs while ensuring feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability. Support technical sales proposals by creating conceptual drawings, renderings, and feasibility assessments. Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and engineering teams to ensure smooth implementation of customer-driven product changes. Provide technical expertise to assist sales in customer discussions and proposal development. Ensure compliance with company design standards and industry regulations. Participate in design reviews, cost analyses, and product optimization initiatives to improve overall product offerings. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 10+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in commercial equipment, retail fixtures, or sheet metal products. Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD) for modeling and drafting. Strong background in sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assemblies, and structural design. Ability to quickly convert customer needs into product specifications while ensuring manufacturability and cost efficiency. Experience working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment with tight deadlines. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to balance multiple priorities. Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience with customized display fixtures, commercial refrigeration enclosures, or similar retail equipment. Knowledge of DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) principles. Familiarity with industry regulations (NSF, UL, DOE energy standards). POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the general direction of the T&D System Planning Program Manager this position encompasses electrical engineering duties under a variety of focus areas, including transmission and distribution planning, substation planning, design, specifications, procurement, and commissioning. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Understand one-lines, three-lines, schematic diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams for area of Engineering focus. Project management responsibilities, where applicable, including fiscal control, reporting and closing of projects. Understand the use of technical test equipment and oversight of the associated data and results. Interact with area field personnel, providing Engineering oversight and technical assistance as needed. Understanding of applicable standards and regulations per specific focus area of Electrical Engineering. Ability to develop solutions per system needs. Ability to work collaboratively with other Engineers and other departments. Understanding basic electrical theory and the application to a Power Utility. Focus Areas: Work closely with others in the department and those necessary in other areas of the Company to facilitate the development of short-term and long-term distribution and transmission capital project plans based on system or equipment reliability, safety, risk assessment, condition, loading and other factors. This will include project development, scope, justification, priority setting and forecasting. Work closely with the Company's Substation Engineering, Power System Technical, System Operations, and other departments to ensure compliance with enforceable NERC O&P Reliability Standards applicable to the Company. Some project management responsibilities, including planning, environmental, material management, financial support, and coordination of all involved parties. Responsibility for technical support of projects from conception to completion. Supervision of subcontractors and/or consultants doing work similar to or involved with normal engineering duties. Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of existing and emerging NERC Operation and Planning (O&P) Reliability Standards Compilation of electrical system data, statistical reports, and specific data requests. Prepare or coordinate the preparation of periodic data submittals and reports as mandated by FERC, NERC, ISO-NE, MPUC and other outside entities as deemed necessary. Performs analysis in support of the Company strategy regarding grid modernization, system reliability, safety, or other business objectives Study the distribution system to identify current and future needs for capital planning. This would involve system modeling using CYME software and understanding the company's Distribution modeling criteria. Build and update the Distribution System model using CYME software ensuring it is up to date and accurate. Continuously integrate system changes into the model. Work closely with System Operations to determine system capabilities in case of maintenance, field work, and emergency situations. Support of Distributed Generation and utilize CYME software, GIS software and other Engineering tools to perform System Impact Studies associated with new or existing solar sites and for Distribution Project screening. Review solar developer documents for completeness and updated documents for changes. Pre-liminary Engineering design and creation of project estimates that are formulated based on the study results and review project estimates and scope documents with Solar developers. Maintain project documents throughout the study process. Work with various consulting firms to initiate and review DG project studies that are required for interconnection. REQUIRED OR PREFERRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required. Five years of T&D Engineering preferred. Related field experience in focus area will be considered. Experience with PC based software including excel spreadsheets preferred. Position requires identity verification and seven-year criminal background check with update at least every seven years pursuant to NERC standards. Maine driver's license required. PERSONAL QUALITIES: Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency. Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external parties; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Able to deal with ambiguity, among multiple projects and competing priorities. NOTES: Position requires sitting, standing, driving, and walking on uneven terrain. Routine work outside required. Position requires concentration and strong organizational skills Usual work hours are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Extra hours are required. Other related duties as assigned, including designated duties associated with System Restoration. RATE OF PAY: Salary Level is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
