What You Will Do The focus of the maintenance team is to keep equipment in the Regional Distribution Center (RDC) fully operational. The Maintenance Mechanic II is a knowledgeable repair person with exposure to and experience with RDC systems and building components. The Maintenance Mechanic II has specialist knowledge and complex repair capability in two of the following areas: conveyors, rolling stock, or building. In addition, the individual in this role has general knowledge and basic repair capability in the other area outside her/his specialty. In all instances, the Maintenance Mechanic II has sufficient electrical and mechanical knowledge to safely and independently repair equipment in the RDC. The Maintenance Mechanic II is able to integrate her/his trade skills, classroom knowledge, and systems experience to recognize and diagnose equipment issues, determine the type of repair needed, prioritize and plan the work, obtain or order the appropriate spare parts, and execute the repair. This person is capable of mentoring a Utility and Maintenance Mechanic I, but also seeks assistance from the Maintenance Coach, when needed. What We're Looking For • Required to work a set schedule that may be changed/modified by management based on the needs of the facility. • Requires availability to work morning, afternoon, nights, or weekends depending upon assigned shift and overtime based on the needs of the facility. • Requires on-call support. • Must work in a distribution/warehouse environment with the physical and environmental aspects typically associated with such environment. • Must be able to use tools and complete maintenance related tasks that require fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. • Must be able to work safely with corrosive materials and at heights of 20+ feet. • Minimally must be able to lift 25 pounds; ability to lift up to 70 pounds. Abacus Technology is seeking a Telecommunications Mechanic I to install, remove, and relocate common telephone systems equipment for Fort Campbell. This is a full-time, represented position. Responsibilities Splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cable to meet job requirements. Perform cabling, power, grounding of various types of equipment and hardware using proper tools and safety practices. Prepare cable, fiber or switchboard or power for terminations. Perform ironwork, wiring, basic splicing functions, cable and lead verification. Install, remove, or relocate various common telecommunication equipment. Qualifications 3+ years experience in telecommunications infrastructure and installation. HS Diploma or GED. Must hold the following certifications: BICSI Installer I (INST1), BICSI Installer II Copper (INSTC), and BICSI Installer II Fiber (INSTF) (or the ability to obtain one of these certifications within six months of the start date, and the remaining certifications achieved within a reasonable timeframe as agreed upon by Abacus Technology management and AFL-CIO union representatives). Must be trained in OSHA Confined Space, basic bucket truck operations, ladder safety, aerial and scissor lift safety, GPS, and cable location. Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing cable systems to include O&M of copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling (aerial, buried, direct buried, and underground), protected terminals, grounding systems, manhole and conduit systems, connectors, and distribution frames as well as, terminating, splicing, locating, marking, testing, tagging, and cross-connecting cable pairs. Must be well versed in BICSI rules, regulations, and standards. Experience developing layout and design for infrastructure systems. Capable of reading and interpreting technical drawings. Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and industry standards and practices regarding the installation and maintenance of outside and inside plant infrastructure. Must be able to sit, walk, climb, and be comfortable working in confined spaces and a variety of weather conditions. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
