Primary Responsibilities: Complete and perform preventative maintenance on minor repairs and standard component inspections/ repairs of fleet diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, refrigeration units) as well as identifying root causes of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required. Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration prior to being deemed as “roadworthy”. Complete thorough documentation for work orders of repairs and preventative maintenance through the online Enterprise Asset Management system. Install, replace, and repair onboard computers. Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition which may require replacement of parts. Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment and machinery requiring the use of hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists. Performs other related duties as assigned. Keep equipment DOT compliant by completing preventative maintenance scheduled, including, but not limited to; installing components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, fuel, exhaust system, braking, steering, hydraulics; air/hydraulic brakes; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, valve mechanisms, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units. Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and visual inspections. Maintain vehicle records by service and repair orders. Ensure all shop equipment is maintained and in good operating condition. Contain costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options. Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies, ensuring orders are placed and inventory is received. Maintain job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications. Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Keep shop clean and organized. Keep shop manager / site manager updated on repairs and maintenance.
