Arrow Sanitary Service, a Waste Connections company, is looking for a DieselTechnician to work on our fleet of garbage/recycle trucks in Portland, Oregon.
Schedule is:
Monday - Thursday 12:00 PM-8:30 PM
Friday 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM
Wages start at $27.00 - $32.00/hour DOE
Safety Sensitive: Yes
*Position requires valid drivers license with acceptable motor vehicle report, eligible criminal background check and ability to pass drug panel screening*
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Repairs include but are not limited to, routine maintenance and repairing engines chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, cooling systems, wheels and tires.
Inspects equipment and/or trucks for condition, operations, parts and fluid levels, differentials, final drives, pump drives, and hubs.
Knowledge of hydraulics repair is required.
Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
Reviews, completes or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
Performs maintenance related work as required.
Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
Performs required safety protocols while working on vehicles.
Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks.
Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
Work environment may be indoors in a shop, or outdoors to repair trucks on the road. Usually well-lighted and ventilated. Sometimes necessary to work in awkward or tight positions and to handle greasy or dirty tools. These factors require following basic safety precautions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above.
Welding or fabrication experience
preferred.
Valid Class A or B CDL with air brakes endorsement
preferred
.
Must provide own personal tools.
Mechanics are on-call 1-weekend a month on a rotating schedule.

Description
We are seeking a senior-level Heavy Truck and Van Upfitting Technician with a strong focus on fabrication to support custom builds in a growing commercial vehicle upfitting department. This is a hands-on, advanced fabrication and install role for someone who thrives on building practical, real-world solutions from drawings, vendor specs, and internal sketches.
In this position, you'll play a critical part in helping reduce lead times and solve fitment challenges by fabricating components in-house to support truck and van upfits. You'll collaborate with a dedicated install team while also working independently to keep jobs moving, maintain quality, and meet customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Upfitting & Installation
Install a wide variety of commercial truck and van upfits, including: service bodies, flatbeds, dump bodies, shelving systems, ladder racks, liftgates, and accessory equipment
Modify vendor components as needed to meet vehicle-specific requirements
Perform on-vehicle adjustments for proper fitment, clearance, and durability
Fabrication (Drawing-Based)
Fabricate custom parts such as brackets, adapter plates, frames, gussets, and mounts
Work from dimensioned shop drawings, vendor blueprints, and internal sketches
Identify drawing discrepancies or conflicts before fabrication begins
Ensure welds and fabricated components meet structural and functional expectations
Shop Collaboration
Work closely with fellow technicians, sales staff, and operations to resolve installation challenges
Conduct quality control checks and flag any safety or functional concerns before delivery
Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and any deviations or modifications
Keep your work area clean, organized, and compliant with shop safety standards
Qualifications & Required Experience
Senior-level experience in truck and van upfitting
Proficient in MIG welding (steel required; aluminum preferred)
Proven track record of fabricating from dimensioned drawings
Hands-on experience installing: service bodies, flatbeds, dump beds, ladder racks, shelving, and liftgate systems
Familiar with fabrication tools, grinders, saws, drills, and precision measuring instruments
Strong mechanical aptitude, spatial reasoning, and attention to detail

What You'll Do:
As a Fleet Upfitting Technician, you will be responsible for:
Perform heavy truck and van upfitting including installation of service bodies, flatbeds, dump bodies, shelving systems, ladder racks, liftgates, and related accessories.
Execute drawing-based fabrication in support of upfitting work, including:
o Custom brackets, mounts, adapter plates, frames, and gussets
o Modifications to vendor components per approved drawings
Read and fabricate accurately from dimensioned shop drawings, vendor drawings, or approved internal sketches.
Perform on-vehicle fabrication and adjustments to ensure proper fit, clearance, and durability.
Utilize hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.
Collaborate with other technicians, sales, and operations to troubleshoot installation or fitment issues.
Identify drawing issues or conflicts early and flag them before fabrication begins.
Conduct quality control checks to ensure all upfit work meets functional and safety expectations.

Kenworth Essentials certifications preferred.

Self-motivation and assertiveness.

Excellent communication and customer relations skills.

As an FAA Certified Part 145 Repair Station, Hillsboro Aviation provides comprehensive maintenance and avionics services for a wide array of aircraft. As a Senior Service Center Airbus H145 Mechanic, you will report to the Service Center Manager and will be responsible for leading maintenance projects and performing maintenance functions primarily on turbine helicopters. This position will also be responsible for supporting maintenance projects on jet, turboprop and high-performance piston aircraft.
