Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Project Engineers work on a variety of real-world electrical and instrumentation projects in a refinery setting. During your time at MPC, you will develop and utilize project management skills including scope alignment, cost and schedule development, and teamwork through multiple engineering phases. You will also support the area teams. We are committed to developing engineers into professional project managers who successfully manage projects of all sizes.
Reliability Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineers troubleshoot Electrical & Instrumentation issues at the refinery. As a reliability intern, you will help analyze failures of equipment, develop solutions for recurring equipment difficulties, submit Project Request Forms (PRF's) to implement solutions, and understand equipment maintenance strategies. There will be opportunities to use electrical analysis software to solve coordination issues and run Arc Flash studies for the power system, as well as learning and understanding about how our critical Refinery Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) are applied.
Process Control / Technical Service Engineers can work on a wide array of projects in support of the process control systems installed throughout the refinery and products movements areas. The process control systems in the refinery provide real-time control and data acquisition functions in support of operating the refinery process and electrical equipment. Typical college co-op assignments include the following: troubleshooting system power supply problems, control system programming, hardware and software lifecycle replacement projects, installing and troubleshooting communication networks and monitoring control system performance metrics.

The Electrical GiT provides effective assistance with Instrument and Electrical Projects, using appropriate electricalengineering education and appropriate resources to ensure work is completed safely, in a cost effective manner, within budget and schedule, and to the standards required.
They also provide assistance to Control Systems Engineers on plant process controls to gain an understanding of the distributed control system and the plant safety interlock system.Position Responsibilities• Supports the I/E Engineer to ensures all assigned Instrument and Electrical Projects are coordinated such that the safety, quality, cost and schedule targets are achieved
• Assists with project and maintenance support to other departments in the area of plant controls and electrical distribution facilities
• Assists with configurable control systems and electricity distribution and control systems within Methanex USA
• Assists with the assigned Instrument and Electrical Project work list to meet customer requirements
• Assists with scopes of work for assigned Instrument and Electrical Projects covering detailed design, preparation of purchase specifications and preparation of construction packages
• Assists with the development of engineering briefs and provides technical advice and assistance as required to the Project group to allow the development of detailed engineering scopes of work and designs
• Ensures the plant Management of Change (MOC) process is followed for all plant modifications
• Ensures appropriate hazard and risk reviews are conducted for assigned Instrument and Electrical related projects and all issues identified are actioned
• Ensures all I&E drawings and documentation are controlled according to the Methanex Geismar procedures and standards
• Ensures the assigned projects are implemented in accordance with Methanex Project Standards, procedures and are in compliance with all regulations
• Utilizes the Manufacturing Capital Management Process (MCMP) procedure to progress a project from initiation to completion
• Manages Technical small to mid-sized capital projects from Stages 1 to 3 as per MCMP
• Supports the execution leads on projects progressing from Stage 4 to close-out as per MCMP
• Uses Maximo to research spare parts associated with equipment to optimize warehouse inventory levels
• Assists with the development and implementation of preventative maintenance plans (PMs) for new and existing equipment
• Assists with the calibration of instrumentation and electrical equipment
• Assists with inspections, instrumentation, analyzers, and electrical equipment as opportunities allow
• Assists with the development of repair plans associated with instrumentation and electrical equipment
• Assists with emergency MOCs as required
• Contributes to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership and as a team member demonstrates the core values of integrity, trust, respect and professionalism, demonstrated through feedback from team and leaders

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
GS-11: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience: Examples of this experience includes: Modeling and simulation professional theories, concepts, principles, techniques, and practices of computer engineering, electronicsengineering and/or computer science.
GS-12: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience: Examples of this experience includes: Leading and/or performing engineering work involving electronic circuits, circuit elements and equipment systems; applying a number of diverse electronicsengineering practices, techniques and processes to identify and resolve complex engineering issues; supporting the planning, testing and troubleshooting of electronicsengineering systems or devices; and, developing computer aided engineering analysis and tools in support of planning and designing applications.
