Meet with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential. Plan utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to improve efficiency of operations. Analyze work force utilization, facility layout, and operational data such as production costs, process flow diagrams, and production schedules to determine efficient utilization of workers and equipment. Recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchase of equipment. Troubleshoot daily manufacturing issues. The Engineering Technician follows defined test plans and protocols, operates and maintains power tools, heavy equipment, specific test equipment, communicates with other research staff during setup and operation to ensure proper and safe operations, and provides feedback to research staff regarding procedures or equipment issues. May include instrumentation and equipment design that involves unique features and the use of independent judgment. May initiate recommendations for new equipment designs and recommend solutions to observed issues. Design, modify, and build specialized research equipment and test setups based on project requirements and test specifications. Prepare material and purchase requisitions; recommend solutions to technical issues encountered during testing or setup. Communicate with researchers to understand project requirements and discuss testing methods, equipment usage, and preliminary results. Install, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot equipment and systems used in research and field applications. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of test procedures, results, and design modifications. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including research staff and technicians. General Description Under the direction of the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer, the Field Engineer will track quantities and cost, participate in work plan development, assist in the coordination between engineering and construction activities, and assist with contract management.
