    The EH&S Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's Environmental, Health & Safety programs across a multi-location warehouse, distribution, and logistics operation. This role partners closely with operations leadership, frontline employees, and the Safety Committee to drive risk reduction, regulatory compliance, and a strong, employee-driven safety culture. The ideal candidate is analytical and data-driven, yet comfortable presenting to groups, leading training sessions, and engaging employees at all levels of the organization. This position reports to the Director of Safety and plays a critical role in advancing proactive, leading-indicator-focused safety initiatives. Travel to company locations is required (approximately 25%). Job Duties & Responsibilities Safety Program Implementation & Support Support company-wide EH&S programs including OSHA compliance, hazard identification, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives. Assist with rollout and maintenance of safety policies, procedures, and training programs aligned with warehouse, distribution, fleet, and office operations. Participate in the development and facilitation of safety committee meetings at branch and regional levels. Support behavior-based safety, near-miss reporting, and employee-driven safety initiatives. Data, Analytics & Reporting Collect, analyze, and trend safety data including incidents, near misses, inspections, audits, and training metrics. Prepare clear, professional safety reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership review. Track leading and lagging indicators (e.g., TRIR, near misses, corrective actions, training completion). Assist with regulatory reporting and documentation as required. Incident Management & Field Support Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development. Conduct site safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments at warehouses and branch locations. Partner with operations leaders to implement corrective actions and verify effectiveness. Support emergency preparedness, drills, and response planning. Training & Communication Deliver engaging safety training and toolbox talks to employees at all levels. Support onboarding and refresher training related to OSHA, DOT-adjacent operations, warehouse safety, powered industrial trucks, PPE, and general industry hazards. Serve as a visible safety resource in the field, building trust and rapport with employees. Qualifications Required Skills & Abilities Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret safety data and identify trends. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence in public speaking and group presentations. Ability to influence without authority and collaborate effectively with operations, leadership, and frontline employees. Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities across locations. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with safety management software preferred. Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards; DOT/fleet exposure is a plus. Ability to work independently while thriving in a team-based environment. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred. Associate degree with relevant experience will be considered. 2-5 years of experience in an EH&S role within warehouse, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or similar operational environments preferred. OSHA 30-Hour (General Industry) strongly preferred. Professional certifications (ASP, CSP, CHST, or similar) are a plus but not required. Physical Requirements Ability to walk warehouse floors, climb stairs, and navigate active operational environments. Ability to stand, sit, bend, and move throughout facilities for inspections and audits. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety shoes, high-visibility apparel, eye protection, and hearing protection as needed.     The EHS Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of company safety and environmental programs, policies, and processes in an effort to achieve a workplace free of work-related injuries and to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and/or company standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Own the development and administration of a comprehensive EHS program to ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations for employee occupational health and safety. Oversee administration of the workers' compensation program. Lead and assist in setting annual strategies of the internal Safety Leadership Management Council including chairing meetings, setting the agenda, and ownership of agenda item status. Develop, recommend, and implement injury and illness prevention program policies, procedures, and initiatives to comply with regulatory requirements and to reduce incidents for all US locations. Participate in the development and delivery of required safety and environmental training and evaluate the ongoing effectiveness. Ensure the LMS is up to date and current to OSHA, the Emergency Operation Guidelines and other applicable legal training requirements. Perform periodic inspections of company facilities and operations to identify safety and environmental hazards. Issue required notices of such hazards and required abatements and promptly provide solutions that mitigate future risks. Perform root cause analysis in order to investigate all incidents and identify solutions to reduce the probability of reoccurrence. Develop and document incidents and formalized action plans where appropriate. Ensure all EHS regulatory compliance audits are conducted as required. Stay abreast of ergonomic advancements and appropriately review company practices for implementation or upgrades in facilities and site-specific activities. Recommend and purchase various Personal Protective equipment according to specifications/regulations. Manage internal PPE programs (Safety Shoe and Safety Glasses) and partnering vendors. Manages hazardous communications program (SDS soft network), keeping documents up to date and work with departmental leadership to ensure proper training is conducted for the required populations. Maintain various files and databases both internal and external (ISNetworld, Avetta, etc.) to ensure whole program compliance. Participation in local/regional safety council as active Board Member. Manage the Environmental Management System -ISO14001 and regulatory requirements as required by federal and state EPA programs. Coordination of facilities disposal & recycle programs. Interface with federal and state regulatory agencies for inspections, audits and compliance issues. Travel may be up to 10% annually. Must have valid driver's license. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in environmental science or industrial management required; and a minimum of five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a safety/security/environmental position with specific experience in working with OSHA compliance and building security. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Computer experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Working knowledge of EAP, OSHA and other state/federal program requirements. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This job will require physical ability to get into and inspect remote structural areas, including roof and spaces in building ceiling. Requires inspection of rooftop cameras. Must be able to smell smoke and sewer gas, for example. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work may require occasional lifting. Help will be made available at more than 75 lbs. Duties may require the occasional use of/contact with/exposure to various hazardous materials (such as, but not limited to grease, oils, lubricants, paint, thinner, parts cleaner, etc.). Employees should have basic awareness of hazardous materials cautions. Those directly using the materials must have specific knowledge of material in use.
