Environmental Safety Technician I/II - Job Description
The EnvironmentalTechnician I/II - Industrial Hygiene and Asbestos Professional is a full-time (or part-time) mid-level position in Ayuda's Gaithersburg, Maryland office. The environmentaltechnician will act as an environmental professional regarding industrial hygiene sampling/evaluation and asbestos operations and maintenance projects as well as other similar environmental projects. Work will include evaluations, sampling, surveying, design, air monitoring, oversight, and reporting for industrial hygiene projects, asbestos remediation, and demolition. Selected candidate must be detail-oriented and organized.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The following job duties are anticipated. The position may involve performing other duties as required, which may not be mentioned below. Specific functions may change from time to time.
As directed, this position performs a variety of environmental duties which require an understanding of local, state, and federal regulations. Work involves most of the following:
Evaluation/Sampling for Industrial Hygiene Concerns/Indoor Air Quality Assessments
Hazardous materials sampling in air, water, and soil
Collection of bulk samples for asbestos, lead, and similar regulated building materials
Collection of ambient air samples for asbestos or similar constituents of concern
Subcontractor oversight, records review and final visual inspection during, and at the completion of, asbestos abatement
Write reports, which include compilation of quantitative and qualitative data, comparison of findings to standards/guidelines, as well as recommendations Perform surveys and construction monitoring of environmental and building system abatement projects relating to asbestos, lead paint, PCBs, and other hazardous materials
Prepare design specifications, proposals, work plans, and project budgets
Experience, Education, and Skills Required:
Minimum 4-year Degree or equivalent experience
Ability to obtain and maintain access and clearance for Federal Installations

STC is seeking a highly motivated and talented scientists across all levels to support the following support activities for Atmospheric Sciences & Technology Applications (ASTA 2.0) Atmospheric Properties Team to:
Ensure and enhance the high quality of NOAA Unique Combined Atmospheric Processing System (NUCAPS) products processed from satellite-based infrared and microwave sounders. The NUCAPS algorithm is a complex retrieval system that translates the radiance measurements from satellites into meaningful three-dimensional profiles of the Earth's atmosphere, including temperature, moisture, and trace gases that are critical to weather forecasting.
Modernize atmospheric microwave and infrared sounding retrieval algorithms including the use of Machine Learning/AI techniques and develop a variety of tools to assess the sounding algorithms quality.
Implement MW/IR retrieval algorithms for new sensors, performing optimization/tuning experiments, delivering operational ready packages for operational applications and conducting detailed evaluation with relevant data sets for research.
Requirements

The EnvironmentalTechnician will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Remediation Services. This will include engaging in in\-situ remediation activities such as implementing scopes of work and remedial designs presented to TWS by consultants and\/or vendors. Field management and oversight responsibilities may include management of all lower\-tier subcontractors, management of health and safety plans, taking part in client discussions, pre\-project preparations, field support, and troubleshooting as needed. As projects may dictate, the EnvironmentalTechnician will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mixing and injection equipment. Working with clients in the field to ensure their project needs and challenges are being met and exceeded and provide them with a resource for technical support.
The EnvironmentalTechnician will work closely with the Director of Remediation Services to monitor project expenditures to ensure projects remain within budget. The EnvironmentalTechnician will be expected to establish relationships with clients and be a go\-to resource for technical support leading up to and throughout projects. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
1. GS-7: You must have completed or will complete a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's from an accredited institution AND must have documented Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the undergraduate level in the following:
a) Grade Point Average 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; OR 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in your major field or the required courses in your major field completed during the final 2 years of your curriculum.
2. GS-9: You must have completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree:
a) Grade Point Average - 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; OR 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in your major field or the required courses in your major field completed during the final 2 years of your curriculum. 1. Professional knowledge of environmental physical science principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to carry out tasks and provide support using established procedures and methods in assigned.
2. Knowledge to perform a variety of technical tasks in support of projects assigned to higher level scientists or engineers using established technology to investigate unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned.
3. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and other guidance to use in applying to assigned tasks in the areas of restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices.
4. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy.
