The Environmental Lands Technician duties involve all aspects of managing the County's system of designated nature preserves and environmental lands. Coordination with the Environmental Lands Specialist and Parks and Recreation Department in the operation and maintenance in accordance with adopted resource management plans and accepted natural resource practices for the Hernando County preserves is required. Coordination with other County Departments and outside agencies is also required.
The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but shall not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.
* Assists in managing the ecological resources on County nature preserves and parks including invasive plant management program, prescribed burning program, habitat restoration and other ecological activities in accordance with adopted policies, guidelines, and practices.
* Coordinates the maintenance of recreational amenities and physical structures/buildings on designated nature preserves.
* Repairs and maintains all aspects of nature preserves.
* Builds and repairs a variety of fences.
* Maintains preserve trails and amenities such as kiosks, parking areas, and pavilions.
* Trims and removes trees.
* Operates most equipment associated with lawn/turf maintenance.
* Transports equipment used in daily activities from site to site.
* Operates equipment (tractor, ditch-witch, jackhammer) and all other power tools associated with construction projects.
* Maintains records for equipment.
* Effectively manage phone calls from staff in your assigned area regarding questions, repairs or other circumstance that may arise.
* Prioritize all maintenance repairs and safety concerns accordingly.
* Communicate directly with the Environmental Lands Specialist about repairs, safety issues/concerns, and other pertinent information in your area.
* Custodial duties within nature preserves as necessary.
* Regular attendance including occasional weekends.
* Additional duties as requested by manager.
Emergency Response
County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description.Minimum Qualifications
* Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
* Experience: Five (5) years of experience in construction and electrical work, trail maintenance, invasive/exotic plant management, prescribed burns, or an acceptable combination of training and experience.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
* Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License and be insurable by current insurance carrier.
* FDACS Chemical applicators license in aquatics and natural areas must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the County's discretion.

Summary
The Associate Center Director (ACD) and Division Chief of Physical & Quantitative Sciences at Moffitt Cancer Center (Moffitt) is a newly-reimagined, senior academic leadership role responsible for driving center-wide, transformative research innovation in artificial intelligence (Al), machine learning, mathematical oncology, bioengineering, biostatistics, and bioinformatics in oncology. The ACD is responsible for providing strategic vision, scientific leadership, and administrative oversight for the Division across multiple disciplines within the Departments of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics (Bio2), Bioengineering, Integrated Mathematical Oncology (IMO), and Machine Learning (ML). This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and expand Moffitt's strengths in physical and quantitative sciences through interdisciplinary research and strategic growth. A primary responsibility of this role will be to foster collaborations across research and clinical faculty and senior administration to grow in-house expertise, research infrastructure, and team science partnerships that advance innovative approaches to advance cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Kleinfelder is currently seeking an Experienced Ecologist/Environmental Scientist to join our growing Tampa, FL office.
Working as part of a team, the successful candidate will assist with ecological field assessments for projects in the mining, energy, and commercial development industries. Primary tasks will include protected species surveys, vegetative monitoring, hydrologic monitoring, water quality sampling and support with other ecological assessments, as well as reporting. The ideal candidate should have a strong knowledge of the natural resources of Florida and a minimum of 2-5 years of applicable job experience.
Candidate should also possess strong time management, problem solving, communication, organizational skills, and have relevant computer/software experience. This position requires solid technical writing and verbal communication skills, including coordination with team members and project managers, as well as periodically with clients and regulatory agency staff.
Candidate will be required to go through and obtain an MSHA New Miner Training certificate as part of on-the-job training.
This position is anticipated to be 70% field work/30% office work. Travel (local/overnight) may account for up to 30%.
The ability to travel, both within Florida and nationwide, and a clear driving record are also required. Potential candidates should be able to work effectively in both team environments and with limited supervision. Candidates should have availability to work outside of typical business hours. Flexibility in daily work schedule and willingness to work long hours in adverse environmental conditions and in remote areas is required.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in the natural resources (i.e. biological, zoology, botany, ecology or environmental science).
Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a natural resources professional is required.
Strong preference may be given to candidates having a FFWCC Gopher Tortoise Authorized Agent permit for surveying, bucket trapping and mechanical excavations.
Proficiency in use of Avenza, ESRI Field maps, a sub-meter GPS and data processing is also desired.
Experience operating a 4x4 truck preferred.
