General Purpose
Environmental Specialist I, you will learn the safe and compliant packaging and shipping of hazardous waste while working at a customer's location. You'll learn how it's handled safely, where it goes, and how we help keep these materials out of landfills and water supplies. In this role, you will collect, separate and pack hazardous material for storage and transport and you'll be trained to complete the required documentation in accordance with our practices and procedures.
Responsibilities
Travel to Abbott Northwestern or United Hospital in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN on M, W, F, and ride along with a CDL B specialist on Tuesday and Thursdays

Communication between generator and Clean Earth
Walk, collect, sort, package, and label hazardous and nonhazardous waste within the hospital site
Utilizing online work order system which prints service requests, TM will collect hazardous and non-hazardous materials from various accumulation areas on the hospital campus and deliver the materials to Hazardous Waste Storage areas
Keep accurate inventories of materials for disposal
Ensure all containers are tracked, labeled and dated
Ensure all containers are always closed
Pour off approved 5-gallon containers into drums
Relabel bulked 5-gallon containers for reuse for the same material
Compile detailed inventories of lab pack materials, segregate and package lab pack materials based on prepared inventory sheets
Prepare all required shipping documents - Manifests, LDRs, inventory sheets, labels & markings
Organize batteries - segregate by type, tape and package
Collect and package lightbulbs for disposal
Assist with reporting requirements and compliance
Unload inbound trucks with supplies and load outbound trucks with drums or other containers of hazardous, non-hazardous and universal wastes
Ensure accuracy of inbound and outbound shipping documents by correctly counting containers removed from our added to trucks
Complete paperwork legibly, accurately, and in a timely manner
Follow all Health & Safety/Job Safety Analysis (JSA's) procedures as outlined in Clean Earth procedures and policies
Maintaining inventory and storage of hazardous materials in accordance with appropriate regulations, customer policies, practices and procedures and Clean Earth policies, practices, and procedures
Segregate and package material for transport along with completion of required paperwork in accordance with appropriate regulations and Customer/Clean Earth policies, practices, and procedures
Basic Qualifications
Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management
Have a HS Diploma or GED
Ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) including eye protection, face shield, Tyvek coveralls, steel toe boots and respirator.

Your Key Responsibilities
Installs and collects environmental air sampling filters from air monitoring stations throughout the Twin Cities and delivers them to a laboratory. Collections occur 365 days of the year, which include holidays and weekends. The workday begins at 5:45 a.m.
Conduct quarterly calibration and flow checks of the sample collectors.
Effectively perform a variety of industrial service projects as assigned.
Accurately and efficiently conduct environmental sampling (air, water, soil, sediment) projects as assigned
Prepare daily diaries, reports, field sketches, post-incident closure reports of all project activity to ensure records are accurate and complete.
Effectively communicate observations or concerns regarding health, safety, or work environment conditions to internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing, maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor to ensure clear understanding and appropriate action.
Assist with various duties including regular equipment checks, maintenance, and inventory; instrument calibration, facility maintenance, facility organization, snow removal, and other duties as assigned.
Participate in Tailgate Safety Meetings, review the Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP) that summarizes the hazards of the proposed work, and follow appropriate PPE and other safety procedures.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
1. GS-7: You must have completed or will complete a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's from an accredited institution AND must have documented Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the undergraduate level in the following:
a) Grade Point Average 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; OR 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in your major field or the required courses in your major field completed during the final 2 years of your curriculum.
2. GS-9: You must have completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree:
a) Grade Point Average - 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; OR 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in your major field or the required courses in your major field completed during the final 2 years of your curriculum. 3. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and other guidance to use in applying to assigned tasks in the areas of restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices.
4. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

CDM Smith's Environmental Services Group is seeking an Engineer, Scientist or Geologist with a.) experience modeling contaminant transport through sediment caps and/or b.) a working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) in remediation projects combined with basic geotechnical engineering experience (significant academic coursework may suffice) related to remediation projects located anywhere within the United States.
The candidate must have demonstrated expertise working independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team on remediation projects for a variety of clients including those in the Federal and Public sector. Candidates with more extensive experience may be considered for a higher grade level than what is proposed for this advertisement.
Roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following regarding sediment remediation projects:
- Understanding the scientific and engineering principles of modeling contaminant fate and transport through sediment caps in subaqueous systems. Experience with CapSim is preferred.
- Experience using CAD to develop drawings for contaminated sediment dredging and/or soil excavation projects, including an ability to follow direction from a senior engineer with minimal continual oversight
- Experience performing slope stability modeling.
- Experience with the development of field sampling programs and subsequent data analyses to support the development of conceptual site models, mass balances, and data-based understanding of fate and transport processes. This would include experience with interpreting results from sediment cores, bathymetric surveys, etc.
- Experience with numerical and/or desktop model development, calibration, and application.
- Experience evaluating the feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and assisting in the development of sediment remediation designs for large contaminated sediment sites involving multiple stakeholders.
- Serve as CDM Smith's primary interface with clients on complicated sediment tasks; this includes having the ability to assess and understand a problem and develop and communicate a technical strategy to the client.
