General Purpose
Environmental Specialist I, you will learn the safe and compliant packaging and shipping of hazardous waste while working at a customer's location. You'll learn how it's handled safely, where it goes, and how we help keep these materials out of landfills and water supplies. Pour off approved 5-gallon containers into drums
Relabel bulked 5-gallon containers for reuse for the same material
Compile detailed inventories of lab pack materials, segregate and package lab pack materials based on prepared inventory sheets
Prepare all required shipping documents - Manifests, LDRs, inventory sheets, labels & markings
Organize batteries - segregate by type, tape and package
Collect and package lightbulbs for disposal
Assist with reporting requirements and compliance
Unload inbound trucks with supplies and load outbound trucks with drums or other containers of hazardous, non-hazardous and universal wastes
Ensure accuracy of inbound and outbound shipping documents by correctly counting containers removed from our added to trucks
Complete paperwork legibly, accurately, and in a timely manner
Follow all Health & Safety/Job Safety Analysis (JSA's) procedures as outlined in Clean Earth procedures and policies
Maintaining inventory and storage of hazardous materials in accordance with appropriate regulations, customer policies, practices and procedures and Clean Earth policies, practices, and procedures
Segregate and package material for transport along with completion of required paperwork in accordance with appropriate regulations and Customer/Clean Earth policies, practices, and procedures
Basic Qualifications

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
1. GS-7: You must have completed or will complete a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's from an accredited institution AND must have documented Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the undergraduate level in the following:
a) Grade Point Average 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; OR 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in your major field or the required courses in your major field completed during the final 2 years of your curriculum.
2. GS-9: You must have completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree:
a) Grade Point Average - 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; OR 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in your major field or the required courses in your major field completed during the final 2 years of your curriculum. If more than 10 percent of total undergraduate credit hours are non-graded, i.e. pass/fail, CLEP, CCAF, DANTES, military credit, etc. you cannot qualify based on GPA.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Professional knowledge of environmental physical science principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to carry out tasks and provide support using established procedures and methods in assigned.
2. Knowledge to perform a variety of technical tasks in support of projects assigned to higher level scientists or engineers using established technology to investigate unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned.
3. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and other guidance to use in applying to assigned tasks in the areas of restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices.
4. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy.

This position will require the individual to be on their feet for the majority of their shift. May be exposed to certain levels of noise with the equipment in operation. Depending on location of position, work hours will vary depending on patient/resident needs. This may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred. Ability to use computer and prior cleaning experience is helpful. Roles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following regarding sediment remediation projects:
- Understanding the scientific and engineering principles of modeling contaminant fate and transport through sediment caps in subaqueous systems. Experience with CapSim is preferred.
