Join us. **Job Description** AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Technician to join our Remediation team in our Long Island, NY office. In this role, you will primarily support remedial operations, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM) projects at client facilities and field sites. The candidate will ideally have experience in environmental remediation/sampling, operating various remediation systems and an interest in hands-on mechanical problem-solving. Typical project work includes operating groundwater treatment systems, soil vapor extraction systems, and sub-slab depressurization systems, and various media sampling (groundwater, vapor, surface water, sediment, and soil). The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team and be able to work independently. **Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:** Remediation System Operations: + Operating various remediation systems, including: + Soil vapor extraction systems. + Sub-slab depressurization systems (both active and passive). + Groundwater pump-and-treat systems utilize technologies such as granular activated carbon, zeolite, particle filtration, and air striping with off-gas treatment. Fieldwork & Sampling + Conducting routine fieldwork, such as: + Groundwater, soil, or air sampling under the close supervision of field task leaders. + Performing soil, groundwater, surface water, waste, sediment, air, and vapor sampling. + Using field tablets and computers to efficiently access, track, and record environmental data. System Monitoring & Maintenance: + Taking and passing operator exam(s) to demonstrate understanding of system operations and maintenance. + Remotely monitoring system performance during off-site hours, including: + At least one evening check and one check per weekend day. + Responding to specific alarm conditions outside of standard working hours. + Performing various operation and maintenance (O&M) tasks and inspections of environmental remediation systems involving the extraction of of chlorinated volatile organic compound, impacted vapor, soil, and groundwater. + Documenting all field activities and notes. + Performing subcontractor oversight. + Communicating effectively with the project team. + Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. + Working within defined scopes, schedules, and budgets while producing quality work. **Qualifications** **Minimum Requirements:** + High School Diploma or GED equivalent + 2 years of experience with operations, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM) or similar treatment systems, including automation and controls. + Ability to travel to various client sites across Long Island, NY to conduct fieldwork, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections. + Due to the nature of the project US citizenship is required + 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current 8-hour refresher. + Ability to use basic computer programs: MS Word and MS Excel and other digital tools (use of field tablets to record data) + Physically able to Work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, noise, and/or chemicals. Lift equipment or objects weighing 40-50 pounds. Use power gripping/squeezing hand tools and levers to perform maintenance, inspection, or reading such as removing nuts and bolts on filters or well covers. Occasionally work with arms above shoulder level, climbing stairs, and using portable ladders to perform maintenance, inspection, or readings. The position will report to the water systems analyst and will work with a team of scientists, engineers, and data analysts supporting drinking water and recreational water programs in NYC. Primary tasks will include water quality surveillance and inspection (sanitary survey) of the NYC drinking water supply system, review of engineering plans and specifications of drinking water system treatment facilities and bathing establishments (swimming pools, spa pools, wading pools, saunas, steam rooms, and spray grounds), and beach water quality sampling and surveillance.
