The individual selected for this position will assist with ongoing land and facilities management responsibilities for the College of Agriculture, including (but not limited to) construction duties, planning and completing projects, and operating heavy equipment and machinery.
**Essential Functions**
**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:**
+ Operates heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, trenchers, forklifts, etc. used for various construction projects on university property and may also drive semi-trucks.
+ Excavates, grades, and resurfaces fields and surfaces at various job sites.
+ Builds/renovates structures and support structures to include ponds, greenhouses, pole barns, and other buildings.
+ Assists in the planning and estimating of department construction projects.
+ May perform welding and plumbing functions in support of local facilities. Loads and transports materials from one location to another.
+ May be occasionally required to travel for out of town and/or overnight work.
+ May apply various pesticides to plants, shrubs, and trees.
+ Repairs and maintains equipment and vehicles ensuring that they are in proper working condition.

A Concrete Pump Operator is a skilled machine operator typically working on construction job sites. A pump operator typically goes to one or even two different job sites per day. Nature of Work The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform responsible skilled work in the operation of heavy construction equipment used in construction and maintenance activities in the Maintenance and Engineering (Landfill) Departments. Employees in this class will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment involved in construction and maintenance activities. Normal work is performed on one or two specific pieces of equipment; however, employee may be required to operate other types of equipment for special projects and during slack or seasonal periods. Work responsibilities are: operates various pieces of heavy equipment such as a track excavator, backhoe, lowboy tractor trailer, bulldozer, motor-grader, tack truck, asphalt spreader, steel wheel roller, vacuum jet rodder, dump truck, trash compactor, scraper (pan), and/or front-end loader; services and performs routine preventive maintenance and safety checks on assigned heavy equipment; supervises a work crew performing skilled, semiskilled and laborer duties, and contributes to the department objectives by accepting additional assignments and performing additional duties and referred tasks. The Construction EquipmentOperator position differs from the Heavy EquipmentOperator II position in that the Construction EquipmentOperator position requires comprehensive knowledge of and a higher level of skill in the operation of several different pieces of heavy equipment. Supervisory experience preferred.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered. Special Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Commercial Driver's License and insurable driving record to drive and operate heavy equipment used for construction, maintenance and repair. Some pieces of construction equipment will require a specific CDL Class (i.e. - Class “A”, Class “B”, or Class “B with tanker endorsement”). Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, sit for extended periods of time, and lift 75-100 pounds in order to inspect, operate, and maintain equipment. Must be willing to work outdoors while being exposed to weather conditions and work weekends, holidays and overtime as need to perform job duties. NATURE OF WORK
The Vibratory Plow Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining vibratory plow equipment (specifically Vermeer 1250i or equivalent) to install underground conduit, fiber optic cable, and utilities in accordance with project plans and safety standards. The operator works collaboratively with the construction crew and performs support tasks related to underground utility installation
REQUISITE SKILLS
Experience:
* 1-year working with Vermeer or Ditch Witch DDD, or equivalent a plus.
* Vermeer 1250i or equivalent.
* Multiple conduit placement experience Is a plus.
Technical Skills:
* Knowledge of utility depths and placements; general knowledge of construction practices.
* Able to read blueprints/underground utility plans and interpret work assignments.
Education / Certification:
* Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Company will provide industry training and certifications if not already secured.
* CDL is a plus.
Physical Requirements / Aptitude:
* Able to work in trenches, manholes, tunnels and confined spaces and in work settings with moderate to loud noise levels.
* Able to move in different positions - crouching, kneeling, reaching, bending and lifting 75 lbs., unassisted.
Other:
* Willing to work overtime when required; willing to travel and to work in all-weather conditions.
* Self-motivated and able to work well in groups.

The individual selected for this position will assist with ongoing land and facilities management responsibilities for the College of Agriculture, including (but not limited to) construction duties, planning and completing projects, and operating heavy equipment and machinery.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
* Operates heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, trenchers, forklifts, etc. used for various construction projects on university property and may also drive semi-trucks.
* Excavates, grades, and resurfaces fields and surfaces at various job sites.
* Builds/renovates structures and support structures to include ponds, greenhouses, pole barns, and other buildings.
* Assists in the planning and estimating of department construction projects.
* May perform welding and plumbing functions in support of local facilities. Loads and transports materials from one location to another.
* May be occasionally required to travel for out of town and/or overnight work.
* May apply various pesticides to plants, shrubs, and trees.
* Repairs and maintains equipment and vehicles ensuring that they are in proper working condition.

This will be a night shift role, typically from 4pm to 2am.
What You'll Do:
Champion Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards. Follow established traffic patterns, avoiding hazardous conditions and immediately reporting unsafe ones.
Operate Mobile Equipment Loaders. Operate mobile equipment loaders to load aggregates for processing, feed the plant, and safely load customers' trucks with desired specification product within legal load limits. Operate a loader to strip and prep the mining site and push material closer to the feeder for processing.
Monitor Materials. Maintain an adequate feed of materials and maintain stockpiles. Visually inspect materials for compliance with specifications.
Maintenance Duties. When not operating the loader, some maintenance duties may be required
Perform Inspections and Maintenance. Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and accurately complete daily mobile equipment reports. Observe the plant and report any necessary maintenance or adjustments that may be required. Clean yard and plant areas. Participate in maintenance, repair, and general plant housekeeping activities.
Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings. Monitor the plant and operations and report any necessary maintenance or adjustments that may be required to ensure safety.
Skills You'll Need:
Experience. 2 years experience operating loaders and dozers in a plant environment preferred.
Functional and Safety Knowledge. Must have a solid knowledge and understanding of the equipment's capabilities and specifications of different finished materials. Must recognize various products by sight and understand proper plant operation. Must have a solid knowledge and understanding of OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations. Must have hazard recognition skills.
Flexibility. Must be able to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
Ready to Drive. Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Interpersonal Skills. Must have good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Must respond to inquiries promptly and follow through to address issues.
