Responsible for the efficient and effective operation and daily maintenance of heavy equipment used in a landfill operation; spotting, screening and removing unwanted and recyclable materials from the landfill; and maintaining positive customer and employee relations.

Key Position Responsibilities
Operate and maintain assigned equipment
- Rips, moves, loads and places solid waste material, rock and dirt. - Cleans cabs, tracks, wheels, teeth and other components of machinery.
Spots, screens and removes unwanted and recyclable materials.
Identifies waste materials inappropriate to the landfill and removes them to an appropriate location. Assists landfill spotters and gate attendant in maintaining a presentable landfill organization and appearance.
Participate in and support training and initiatives to improve service quality, safety, customer and employee relations, and operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Knowledge and practical skill to safely and efficiently operate large heavy equipment including but not limited to dozer, compactor, excavator, articulated dump truck and water trucks.
Assist in the operation of the Columbia Tipper.
Required to work in compliance with all Landfill required permits.

A Valid Driver's License with Clean Driving Record
Class B driver's license OR the ability to obtain a Class B driver's license within 6 months.

Essential Functions
Tolerance to work in extreme weather and environmental conditions - temperature ranges from below freezing to over 110 degrees, rain and snow, wind, dust and mud.
Ability to lift up to 65 pounds by hand, and work with others and/or machines to lift heavier objects.
Back, leg, arm and shoulder strength required to clean wire, heavy cable, dirt and other debris while working in awkward positions from operational components of the equipment on a daily basis. Requires use of various hand tools including shovels, picks, etc.
Capacity to operate the equipment for up to 3 hours at a time, and between 4 and 11 1/2 hours in a workday.
Mobility to repeatedly access and egress the heavy equipment on all types of flat and sloped terrain, as well as bend, twist and extend the body during equipmentoperation to observe the operation of the machine and its immediate surrounds.
Strength and coordination in the feet, legs, hands and arms to operate the controls while being jarred and jostled in the cab of the equipment and experiencing sudden vertical changes in position.
Ability to safely climb on and off of heavy equipment in order to operate, clean and inspect.
Ability to walk/stand on uneven cell of solid waste with a slope of up to 50% or a 2:1 slope in order to deploy plastic cover material.
Complete and pass random drug and alcohol tests in accord with DOT and company standards.

About this Role
FiberTel is looking for a Travel Utility Excavator/EquipmentOperator for our Portland location. This is a travel position with job sites in OR, WA, and ID.

Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating on rough surfaces. During fire suppression assignments, the operator is exposed to smoky conditions, fire burns, and other similar conditions.
Work Environment: Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning or to the possibility of being overrun by the wildfire.
This is a primary firefighter position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS). The position is subject to maximum entry age (MEA) requirements. * Ability to work in a railyard environment with heights and temperatures ranging from 40° to +100° degrees.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
* This position is largely self-directed and requires the understanding of company policy, procedures, and values.
* Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments.
* This position operates in a rail yard environment. In the railcar surroundings, the trans-loader may be exposed to noise, heat, and other elements while performing the duties of this position.
* The team member will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and exposed to petroleum and other related products.
Specific Physical Requirements include:
* Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
* Opening valves.
* Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds.
* Data entry while seated for greater than one-half (1/2) hour.
* Walking of two (2) or more miles per day.
* Working at heights, and at temperatures from 40° to +105° degrees.
* Standing for extended periods of time
* Elevated work is required.
