We are recruiting for a Mechanical Estimator in the greater Pittsburgh PA area with Mechanical construction experience. Successful candidates must have a minimum of 5 years Commercial Estimating with Mechanical Piping, Plumbing, and Sheet Metal projects. Our client is a large regional Commercial / Industrial contractor that is in expansion mode. The position needs to be filled immediately. Project mix includes Industrial, Commercial, Government, Education, and Healthcare
Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Read and understand the project specifications
Development of master budgets and cost models for HVAC, Piping and Plumbing
Provide conceptual estimates of projects
Provide Hard Bid Estimates of projects
Develop and maintain cost databases
Reviews and comments on estimates provided by others
Provide independent estimates of change orders
Develop pre-construction cost estimates
Position Requirements
Experience: 5 years experience as an Estimator with projects larger than $1M(Mechanical Value) or an incredible career history to be considered
Solid track record of projects that involve commercial piping
Must have the ability to create conceptual bids for Design / Build projects
Solid communication skills - both verbal and written
Ability to establish timelines and budgets
Ability to multi-task
Solid proven and verifiable record of career stability and estimating success is a must
Must have solid computer skills
A four year degree in a construction related field is preferred

Key Responsibilities
Prior to beginning work become familiar with and review all bidding requirements in addition to the project documents.
Review project type and requirements and select subcontractors and material suppliers from the master bidders' lists that are appropriate for the project. Send out bid invitations via the latest bid invitation software and update the bidders' list as required. Contact key subcontractors and vendors early in the process to ensure pricing coverage.
Attend pre-bid meetings as required. Survey the situation to determine competition on the project. Review site logistics and access while on site.
Prepare “take off” and check for completeness. Coordinate with 3rd party quantity take-off consultants when so utilized.
Prepare pricing for all self-preformed work and adjust standard productivity in accordance with job requirements.
Prepare estimate summary sheets, subcontractor/vendor comparisons, and bid sheets.
Communicate with designers on contract document items not clearly shown on the bid documents. Document using RFI's (Request for Information).
Qualifications
5-10 years of job experience in commercial construction highly preferred.
Experience in Waterproofing Estimating.
BS degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
Thorough understanding of industry practices and standards.
Strong foundation in database management (ex. Excel) and related industry software (ex. Bluebeam).
Highly collaborative work style with excellent communication skills.

A typical project looks like:
Reading, understanding, and interpreting drawings and specifications
Soliciting quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, estimate to be 95% complete prior to formal review with Chief Estimator
Preparing a rough project schedule for determining the time frame
Preparing competitive job estimates by interpreting drawings and bid documents and performing takeoffs for labor, equipment, and materials
Reviewing estimated productions with superintendents to finalize the bid
Other duties as assigned per project
Do you have what it takes?
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Undergraduate Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering, and 5-yrs experience in the construction industry preferred.
Experience in public and private civil construction projects, i.e. sitework, underground utilities, excavation/grading, retaining walls, and culverts. Experience in structural concrete, concrete paving, bridges, and piling is not required but encouraged.
A successful track record of estimating civil construction projects
Have a working knowledge of means and methods/constructability, crew composition, and production rates.
Clear understanding of risk management and mitigation
Proficient in HCSS Heavy Bid estimating software is preferred, but not required.
