Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Engineer to join our Commercial Division in North Port, FL. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level construction professional to gain hands-on experience in community-focused commercial projects, including schools, fire stations, municipal buildings, and other public facilities. The Field Engineer will work closely with the Project Superintendent and Project Manager to learn the fundamentals of project coordination, layout, and field management. This role provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in project management or field supervision. Key Responsibilities Assist the Superintendent and Foreman with layout, measurement, and field engineering tasks. Support daily project operations, including scheduling updates, document tracking, and field communication. Help prepare and process Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals. The role of Field Engineer is critical as the entry-level liaison between office and field operations to provide communication and support such as technical expertise, material management, and execution of design in accordance with the production budget and customer expectations. Job Description The Field Engineer gathers the necessary field information regarding aerial, buried or underground Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications cable and associated facilities. The information provided by the Field Engineer will be utilized to facilitate the design of work orders to place new network cables, utility poles, hand holes, terminal cabinets, etc. or to rearrange/modify the existing network. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.) As we continue to grow, we currently have a tremendous opportunity for a Senior Field Service Engineer who is up for the challenge. Summary: Responsible for providing installation, technical repair and service work in the field or at the hub for equipment and systems, including ensuring equipment in trailers does not interfere with the safety of operation of the trucks and trailers on roadways. Lead or assist with the installation and servicing of medical imaging equipment and provide assistance to Service Engineers, Technicians as well as Apprentices. Repair, replace or install parts and devices with expertise as required. Essential Functions: The following list of essential functions is not intended to be restrictive or all inclusive. Independently complete full mobile unit load inspection to ensure secure road safety, including PET-CT and Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) secured to specifications, in addition to checking electrical system for fire hazards and safe operation, quarterly or at least bi-annually, or sooner if problems arise. Exercise discretion to identify whether repairs are needed and, if so, what repairs to make. Complete safety checklist of mobile unit inspection to identify any abnormalities, weekly for local units, or at least 5-6 times per year for remote units. The Field Engineer gathers the necessary field information regarding aerial, buried or underground Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications cable and associated facilities. The information provided by the Field Engineer will be utilized to facilitate the design of work orders to place new network cables, utility poles, hand holes, terminal cabinets, etc. or to rearrange/modify the existing network. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.) Essential Position Functions: • Take detailed measurements, notes and pictures of the proposed telecommunications network construction locations, cable routes, and equipment sites. • Travel to required work sites. • Obtain accurate distances and necessary field data using a measuring wheel, range finder, pole stick or other outside plant engineering tools. • Follow measuring guidelines set forth by the customer. • Adhere to safety guidelines set forth by TrueNet and customer. • Report data/notes to appropriate design team member and/or manager. • Maintain company vehicle (if provided) as directed by manager and/or safety team. • Attend onsite meetings as directed by TrueNet and/or customer. • Attend training sessions to maintain and build upon skill, knowledge and performance levels. • Other duties as assigned. We are seeking a motivated Civil Project Engineer to play a key role in the planning, design, and execution of educational, sports, and other land/site development projects. The project engineer will work closely with our civil engineering and architecture teams to support the development of municipal parks and recreation, K-12, higher education, professional athletic facilities, and other land/site development projects, ensuring projects are designed with functionality, sustainability, and safety in mind. Your Impact: Assist in Design: Collaborate with the civil and architectural teams in designing site plans, utilities, drainage, and grading solutions. Site Evaluation: Conduct site visits and help prepare reports, documenting site conditions and potential challenges related to athletic, educational, and other site development facilities. CAD Drafting: Work with CAD staff to modify and update design drawings using AutoCAD or other relevant design software.
