Reporting to the Fabrication Manager, Shop Helper will be responsible for assisting with prepping, grinding, sanding, and cleaning of sheet metal and steel material. This individual will also assist machine operators and welders with assigned tasks to complete the fabrication of materials.
What a typical day looks like:
Cut material in preparation for fabrication or processing
Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment
Assist machine operators (press brake, punch press, and laser) with loading and unloading items from the machines
Assist welders with structural welds by holding materials in place
Transfer raw materials, finished products, tools, or equipment between work areas on the production floor using powered equipment (ex. Forklifts)
Maintain a clean and safe work area
Complete other related duties as assigned
The experience we're looking to add to our team:
High School Diploma or equivalent
1+ years' experience in a related capacity
Strong attention to detail and ability to perform work accurately

Major duties include:
* Maintenance and preservation of historic and non-historic structures. This position requires skills applied to the maintenance, stabilization, restoration, repair and/or reconstruction of various historic and non-historic structures that range widely in historic period.
* Performs carpentry/woodworking tasks such as reconstruction, restoring or rehabilitating wood structures (rafters, doors, windows, floors, staircases, trusses, beams, interior and exterior trim etc.).
* Performs painting tasks which includes surface preparation and mixing of paints to approximate color and texture of historic paints.

Responsibilities
+ Carries materials and operates motorized material handling equipment.
+ Cuts, shapes, threads, connects and disconnects pipe and conduit.
+ Selects, measures, saws and nails lumber and assists in the construction of forms for pads, foundations, and walls.
+ Removes forms and cleans lumber.
+ Operates air hammers, power equipment, and other construction tools.
+ Digs trenches, excavates for pads, walls and foundations.
+ Mixes, places, transports, and tamps concrete.
+ Removes, transports, and stores materials.
+ Performs site cleanup, including debris removal, sweeping, and maintaining a clean job site upon completion of work.
+ Provides back-up coverage to assigned areas as needed and promotes an SCE safety conscious work environment.
+ Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
+ A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
+ One or more years of experience performing construction related work utilizing standard materials, methods, tools, and equipment.
+ Experience using hand tools, power tools and mechanical equipment.
+ Posses a valid Class C Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience with construction or maintenance of substations or utility infrastructure.
+ Experience with rough carpentry, framing and general construction support tasks.
+ Experience with concrete installation, including forming, pouring, finishing, and curing.
+ Experience with civil construction, such as grading, trenching, backfilling, and site preparation.
+ Ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew and follow detailed instructions.
+ Ability to perform strenuous manual labor.
Additional Information
+ This position's work mode is on-site. The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

MAJOR DUTIES:
* Live and work out of remote wilderness camps for up to 8 days or up to several weeks/months at a time.
* Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, and pack animals etc.
* Maintain hiking trails, i.e., cutting back vegetation, cleaning drainage structures, clearing rockfall, and repairing trail and stock fences.
* Perform, strenuous manual labor such as digging ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where soil is hard and compact and must be graded or sloped, shoveling snow requiring significant endurance for sustained periods of time.
* Mix and pour concrete, asphalt and hot/cold mix and fills and levels holes in damages roads/trails.
* Construct and maintain trail structures such as retainer checks, bridges, turnpikes, retaining walls, waterbars, and swales.
* Moves heavily loaded wheelbarrows and hand trucks. Cuts heavy trees with axe or chainsaw, stacks heavy logs, lumber and sacks of cement or performs other duties.
Physical Demands: The work performed requires very heavy physical effort. The incumbent routinely lifts, pushes, pulls, and carries items weighing 50 pounds, and up to 150 pounds (or more) with assistance. Grade 3 laborers exert very heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Almost all of the incumbent's work will be outside in all kinds of weather conditions, and involve the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes, and other injuries. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment to avoid serious injuries. At the grade 3 level the tasks involved may result in more serious injuries than at lower grade levels. The incumbent works the majority of time outdoors in temperatures ranging from 0 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter to excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.
Poor air quality afflicts Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, especially during summer months - generally May to October. High ozone levels may be the most harmful pollutant here. Qualifications
Have the ability to do the work of a Laborer (Trails) without more than normal supervision (Screen out). Work experience includes the following tasks:
* Perform work tasks on a crew or work group responsible for carrying out tasks in remote areas.
* Use shovels, picks, rakes and saws to perform landscape or construction type work.
* Digging trenches, clearing water drainages and cutting & bucking timber.
* Must have experience in backpacking and camping
* Must have ability lift and carry objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
Certain locations/parks (Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Yosemite) require regular and recurring work and camping in rugged mountainous backcountry at high elevations as described. It is a Selective Factor (Screen Out). To be considered for this position, you must provide the detailed description as required above.
