2003

The split completes in April 2003 and IHG becomes a standalone company.

2005

Barry Sternlicht left Starwood Hotels & Resorts in 2005, but continues to be active in the hospitality space as the founder, chairman, and CEO of Starwood Capital Group where he is focused on growing the 1 Hotels brand.

2012

In 2012, Korzen left Viceroy Hotel Group, and today, he’s the CEO and founder of The Kor Group, which still runs the Avalon Beverly Hills as well as the new Proper brand of hotels.

2014

In 2014, InterContinental Hotels Group announced it would purchase Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants for $430 million in cash.

2015

In 2015, Starwood Hotels added Design Hotels as its 11th hotel brand and now that Marriott owns Starwood, it's become one of Marriott's 30 hotel brands.

2016

In 2016, Marriott International purchased W's parent company, Starwood, for a record-setting $13.3 billion, thereby forming the world's largest hotel company..

2018
