About the Department The Bellevue College (BC) Custodial Services Department within Campus Operations supports the College's primary mission by cleaning and maintaining internal and external areas of all College Facilities and other assets. The department works in compliance with local, state and federal laws and agencies by following BC's policies, follows and maintains safety procedures and follow-up Campus Operations program on accidents and safety prevention techniques. The department also follows APPA's Operational Guidelines as well as continuously improves work methods, knowledge of equipment, supplies and safety through participation in routine training sessions. Essential Functions Facility Maintenance and Custodial Support * Operate variety of equipment including power tools, maintenance tools, vacuum cleaners, blowers, disinfecting devices, scrubbers, upholstery cleaners, buffing machines, water extractors, carpet shampooers, pressure washers. * Perform office and facility moves including assembling/disassembling furniture and partitions, mounting/dismounting equipment, and relocating items as requests or projects related. * Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, wax and polish floors, walls and woodwork, shampoo carpets, dust furniture and equipment, * Empty and manage waste, trash, recycling and compost containers. * Polish furniture, metal fixtures and wash windows. * Keep building entrances, walkways and exterior areas free of ice, snow, leaves, garbage and other debris. * Maintain work areas in a clean, sanitized and safe condition in accordance with BC's procedures. * Provide coverage for other custodial runs as needed due to absences, emergencies clean up or other work-related needs of the BC s internal and external facilities. * Collaborate with Campus Operations department staff and the various departments, vendors and/or visitors as needed Equipment, Supply, and Storage Mail * Maintain and repair a variety of heavy-duty machines such as floor machines, washers, vacuums, buffers. * Service electric powered maintenance devices and custodial tools. * Replace mechanical and electrical components, including drive wheels, shafts, gears, valves and switches. * Manage inventory of parts, equipment supplies, parts catalogs and equipment maintenance records. * Stock and organize supplies and products in designated storage areas. * Ensure availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies and hygiene supplies including face masks, peroxide multi surface cleaners, paper towels, sanitizing hand gel, sanitizing wipes, paper products, soap, sanitary and menstrual supplies and other items. * Replace furnishings, light bulbs, fixtures and other miscellaneous objects as needed. * Assemble/disassemble, mount/dismount dispensers and/or equipment. * Upkeep the custodial storage room and working areas in a clean and organized condition. * Monitor and update inventory of supplies, products and the assigned equipment. * Upkeep designated golf carts in a clean and working conditions. * Maintain equipment in working condition and up to date, returning any broken or unused items to the warehouse. Training, Reporting and Event Support * Instruct the custodial staff on routine maintenance or custodial cleaning techniques. * Ensure proper maintenance of equipment. * Improve work methods, equipment knowledge, and safety practices by participating in supervisor led-training sessions. * Report building damage and malfunctions in a computerized facilities management system such as Direct Line-Megamation. * Set-up and break-down BC and special events including stages, podiums, tables, chairs, partitions, etc. Safety and Policy Compliance * Follow BC's policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws and safety regulations * Follow and maintain safe work practices and support Campus Operations by reporting incidents and participating in accident prevention initiatives. * Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications * Physical ability to do the required work and one (1) year of Maintenance Custodial experience or equivalent. * Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance/custodial work. * Must be able to work with arms overhead, kneel, bend, crawl, squat and crouch repeatedly. * Ability to work off a ladder (up to 8 feet) and lift, push or pull at a minimum of 50 pounds. * Effective verbal and written communication skills. * Effective interpersonal and customer service skills. * Must have a valid Washington Driver License with two (2) years of driving experience. * Must be able to multitask and manage workload in a fast-paced environment. * Demonstrated experience working with colleagues and/or students in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
