About the Role Role Purpose Maintenance Electrician is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted functioning of a facility's electrical systems and equipment through a mix of preventative maintenance, routine inspections, and emergency repairs. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical codes, the ability to interpret technical diagrams, and excellent problem-solving skills. Key Responsibilities Inspection and Testing: Regularly inspect, test, and diagnose faults and malfunctions in electrical systems, components (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and relays), and related electro-mechanical systems. Preventative Maintenance: Develop and perform routine preventative maintenance on facility machinery and equipment to identify and fix minor issues before they become major problems and ensure ongoing safety and efficiency. Repair and Troubleshooting: Respond to emergency breakdowns and troubleshoot complex electrical issues using various testing devices (e.g., volt-ohmmeters, ammeters). Repair or replace faulty wiring, equipment, or fixtures, such as motors, lighting systems, and control panels. Installation and Modification: Install, modify, and upgrade new and existing electrical systems and equipment, ensuring all work is in accordance with applicable local, state, and National Electrical Codes (NEC) and safety regulations (OSHA). Blueprint and Schematic Interpretation: Read, interpret, and analyze blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to determine wiring methods, plan installations, and ensure compliance with design specifications. Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and materials used, often utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Collaboration and Guidance: Work closely with other tradespeople, engineers, and contractors. May be required to guide or train maintenance workers or apprentices. Inventory Management: Assist in identifying and procuring necessary equipment and supplies, ensuring an adequate inventory of spare parts and components. Essential Skills & Experience Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with completion of a technical training program in electrical maintenance or an electrician's apprenticeship. License/Certification: A journeyman electrician license is typically required. A valid driver's license required. Experience: Several years of progressively responsible experience in the electrical trade, with a thorough working knowledge of electrical codes for installation and maintenance. Experience with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is often desirable in industrial settings. Responsibilities Execute plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical systems Install electrical apparatus, fixtures and equipment for alarm and other systems. Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.). Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components. Prepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through them. Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits etc. Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Proven experience as a Journeyman. MUST BE A LICENSED JOURNEYMAN FOR THE STATE OF TEXAS. Experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems. Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints.
