Position Requirements: The following skills will be considered in the selection of candidates for interviews:

Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving history. People who do not have a Class A Commercial Driver's License are required to obtain the same during their probationary period.
The work is physically demanding. Linemen/signalmen must be able to work outdoors in all weather situations, on uneven surfaces, lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds, and work on feet for up to ten (10) hours per day. Mechanical aptitude, good physical strength and endurance, good interpersonal skills when interacting with supervisors, fellow employees, and passengers.
Linemen/signalmen must be available for unplanned overtime and emergency call outs during off-duty hours.

Flexible about unexpected changes in work assignments or priorities. Most of the work assignments will report to headquarters in Michigan City. Schedule: The normal scheduled work hours are 0700 to 1530, Monday through Friday. The District may furlough this position at any time based on the needs of the service. Mandatory overtime, weekend work, or a 4-10 work schedule may occur.
Salary and Benefits: The starting hourly rate for the position is $31.59. Benefits include a Railroad Retirement Board pension, vacation, personal days, and full medical benefit package. Details pursuant to federal law and the union contract. Employees must travel at their own expense between their home and their headquarters (Michigan City or as otherwise designated).
Work Environment: Work is indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Most work is during daylight hours but may be required at other times to address the needs of the service. Work is on significantly uneven surfaces and may require work on wet or slippery surfaces. Levels of activity vary from moderate to intense. Stressful situations may occur. Exposure to heat, humidity, cold, rain, and snow is common.

Job Summary:
The Lineman will build and maintain telecommunications systems which can consist of aerial and underground facilities.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
* Repairs and maintains major cable systems and structures such as broken lashing, replacing or re-sagging cable strand, pole transfers, down-guys, aerial to underground conversion, substructure repairs and wire/cable replacements related to system outages, maintenance, rebuilds and emergencies or hazards.
* Reads and interprets work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and/or cut sheets to determine work to be done in a sequence of the task.
* Performs construction work such as digging holes, climbing telephone poles, placing, and removing poles and anchors, pulling and stringing wire/cable from pole to pole, laying cable and conduit in the ground.
* Operates power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, hydraulic diggers, and hydraulic aerial lifts mounted on trucks.
* Uses test equipment to check for gas in manholes; may be required to empty water and other debris from manholes.
* Dismantles, moves, and removes aerial, underground, or building wire, cable associated equipment, and hardware.
* Connects wires and cables to terminals and attaches/detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
* Responds to and participates in emergency and outage situations that require heavy construction capabilities.
* Ensures that all work considers the safety of the customer and general public and compliance with all governmental orders.
* Able and willing to work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions.
* Completes daily production reports and As-Built documentation on prints.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

* Must have a valid driver's license and transportation

Job Responsibilities for Commercial and Industrial Electrician:
Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in commercial and industrial settings, including wiring, panels, circuits, motors, and equipment.
Troubleshooting and Repairs: Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues, using a variety of tools and techniques to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
Compliance with Codes and Standards: Ensure all electrical work adheres to local, state, and federal electrical codes, safety standards, and building regulations.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to plan and execute electrical installations and upgrades.
System Upgrades and Modifications: Upgrade and modify existing electrical systems to improve performance or meet new requirements, such as adding outlets or equipment.
Safety Protocols: Adhere to strict safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, to ensure the safety of the work environment.
Collaboration: Work closely with other contractors, engineers, and team members to complete projects on time and within budget.
Preventive Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment to reduce downtime and increase operational efficiency.
Emergency Response: Provide on-call support for emergency electrical repairs, ensuring quick response and resolution of critical issues.
