Work Schedule:

Qualifications/Credentialing:
The Medical laboratory technician must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) or an equivalent Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) certification with appropriate training.
Board Certification: Medical Laboratory Technicians are not required to be board certified,
only certified as an MLT, MLS, or CLS by the ASCP or AMT.
Associate degree from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory, or related science.
Completion of medical technology clinical practice program and have all licenses, permits, and certifications as required by law and this contract.
Two years of experience in a health care field that demonstrates the applicants ability to perform the work or provides an understanding of the work such as but not limited to a medical or clinical laboratory assistant (or technician) or health technician.

Performs quality control procedures on assigned instruments and methods as per Quality Control procedure.

Prepares and loads onto the instrument: reagents, calibrators and quality control materials as needed.

Essential Functions

* Understands and complies with standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies in assigned operational area. Performs competency assessments following regulatory standards. Assumes responsibility for operation of the section in absence of supervisor and serves as General Supervisor or Technical Consultant. Instructs students, new team members, laboratory support staff, and hospital personnel in procedure, technique, and theory. Maintains a safe and clean working environment and responds immediately to safety violations.
* Uses the correct policies and procedures in the collection, labelling, handling and processing of all specimens. Verifies identification of the patient, specimen, and results. Evaluates specimen integrity based on department standard operating procedures (SOPs).
* Recognizes customer satisfaction issues and responds/escalates appropriately. Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: Four-year diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or Chemistry from a national or international accredited educational institution. Transcript must include a minimum of 60 semester hours with 25 hours of coursework in clinical laboratory science, chemical and biological science required. Must include a clinical laboratory rotation in immunohematology, chemistry, hematology and microbiology.

* The MLS II performs the following:

* The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory testing according to laboratory accreditation requirements and LMC Laboratory established procedures/policies. The MLS II exhibits the knowledge and expertise in the following job duties:
* Process laboratory specimens related to assigned departments.
* Select, perform, evaluating, and monitoring the performance of test procedures independently using manual and/or instrumental techniques.
* Perform instrument calibration and verify data to meet manufacturer's specifications; perform routine quality control, preventative maintenance, and verification of correct instrument operation; recognize indicators of malfunction and perform corrective action.
* Perform trouble-shooting procedures on all assigned department equipment, communicate with service, and relay appropriate information to appropriate personnel; document appropriately.
* Review patient and instrument data for accuracy and maintain proper records (i.e., quality control reports).
* Recognize abnormal results, evaluate and correlate data with other test results/diagnosis; interpret appropriately and conduct follow-up action if required; seek appropriate assistance with problems.
