Terms and Conditions apply** The Pathologist Assistant (PA) Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the grossing area, autopsy suite and pathology operations in the morgue. The PA Supervisor works effectively with laboratory management, administrators and physicians to maintain competent staff in accordance with the VCUHS mission and vision. The PA Supervisor is responsible for scheduling; policy development; general operational duties; training new hires and daily operation of the grossing area from specimen accessioning through specimen processing. The PA Supervisor provides technical instruction to lab personnel and residents and documents their training and competency; maintains laboratory procedure manuals and insures the regulatory compliance of these areas; and manages the technical QC/QA functions for these areas. The PA Supervisor works in the technical capacity of a Pathologists' Assistant, assisting pathologists with the proper grossing of accessioned surgical specimens, the preparation for and performance of human postmortem external examinations and eviscerations at autopsy and resident training. In addition, the PA Supervisor will perform specific tasks and duties under the direction and supervision of Attending Pathologists. This position coordinates with Medical Director and supervises the mandatory training of residents of the Department of Pathology. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Certified as a Pathologists' Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or certification eligible within 3 months from date of hire into position Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current PA (ASCP) Certification Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of 4 years of work experience as a Pathologists' Assistant with skills in surgical pathology and autopsy pathology. Our Mohs Surgery Center is in search of an organized, fastidious, energetic Histotechnician to process tissue, keep a spotless lab, function as an integral part of the team, provide unparalleled patient service, and tackle all tasks with the utmost of professionalism. New graduates are welcome! Essential Functions: The Histotechnician will assist in processing tissue for the surgical specimens for interpretation by the physician (Mohs surgeon). Laboratory duties include sterilizing instruments, packaging linen, maintaining an inventory of laboratory supplies, and assisting with general maintenance of equipment in the lab and operating rooms. In conjunction with the physician (Mohs surgeon), the Histotechnician implement and monitor policies and procedures for compliance with OSHA and CLIA standards. Major tasks and duties: Process all tissues, including proper cutting, staining, cover slipping, and labeling. Clean and sterilize instruments daily. Maintain laboratory equipment in proper working order to ensure consistent, high-quality function. Package, sterilize and distribute linens to procedure rooms. Responsible for morning laboratory setup. Assist with maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies; unpacking and storage of supplies. Maintain all laboratory and surgical logs including monthly and annual reports. Improve laboratory efficiencies by detecting and communicating technical and logistical problems to laboratory management for resolution. Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance. A Laboratory Technician I is responsible for performing tasks required to meet the expectations of our clients, in addition to efficiently and profitably generating defensible data in a timely manner. The ideal candidate will have experience in working under possibly hazardous conditions (e.g. pathogens or chemicals). He/She/They will be well-trained to maintain safety conditions and will be passionate for doing work that makes things move forward As a key member of the Richmond Laboratory team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including: ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Sample/Equipment Receipt Sample Pressurization/Preparation Sample Screening Sample Archive Management Flow Controller inspection, calibration, leak checking Assist with the loading of cleaning batches Assist with equipment order assembly/packing Comply with Enthalpy's Quality Assurance Program and other policies Comply with Enthalpy's Health and Safety Plan Other duties as assigned by the Group Leader or Lab Director YOUR EXPERTISE & SKILLS To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High School Diploma or GED Required, Bachelor of Science Degree preferred Strong MS Office skills Must have strong mechanical skills and enjoy working with tools on a daily basis Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good organizational skills and strong communication skills Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs routinely and to lift/manipulate smaller weight items throughout the day.
