Working under the direction of trades professionals, the position assists with basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical work; performs routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs; and contributes to custodial, groundskeeping, and event-setup activities as needed. The incumbent operates and cares for tools, equipment, and vehicles; responds to work orders and campus service needs in a timely manner; and helps ensure that campus facilities remain clean, functional, and safe for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Work is conducted in accordance with University policies, established safety practices, and applicable regulations, with guidance and review provided by higher-level craftworkers and supervisors. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Incumbents of positions at this level receive direct supervision from craftworkers and other employees of higher grade who provide on-the-job training, assign work and review performance through verbal reports and inspection for effectiveness. DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Custodial Services * Cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restroom facilities and drinking fountains in accordance with established University health standards * Cleans all surfaces in offices, classrooms, common spaces, laboratories, meeting rooms, etc. * Empties and cleans waste and recycling receptacles and transports contents to designated disposal sites * Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, polishes, buffs, and applies special finishes to floors * Vacuums, shampoos, and spot cleans carpets and walk-off mats * Replaces light bulbs for internal and external fixtures around the perimeter of buildings and cleans lenses and light covers * Cleans return air grilles and supply diffusers to maintain proper airflow and indoor air quality * Washes interior and exterior windows, glass surfaces, and partitions * Dusts, polishes, removes graffiti from and rearrange furniture * Moves furniture, equipment, books, musical instruments, laboratory equipment, etc. * Sets up and dismantles staging, chairs, tables, and other required equipment for campus events * Locks and unlocks buildings and turns buildings lighting on or off * Identifies maintenance and repair needs and reports condition for work order processing * Determines required cleaning supplies for assigned work areas and requisitions materials through supervisor *
