The ED Psych Assessment Specialist provides services to patients with mental health complaints from adolescents through advanced adulthood in an emergency department setting. Services include initial assessment, crisis, individual and group therapy. Provides psychosocial assessments, interviews, and treatments and works closely with other healthcare team members, community resources, and regulatory agencies to facilitate the transition of patients from the ED to their next continuum of care. Into Action Recovery & Wellness Centers is afamily-founded, community-driven treatment program located in Roanoke, Virginia. Our mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care for individuals seeking recovery from substance use and co-occurring disorders.
We are currently welcoming Counseling Interns and Residents in Counseling who are eager to grow their clinical skills in a supportive, trauma-informed, and collaborative environment.

Job Title: Counselor Intern (Clinical Intern Supervisee in Residence)
Immediate Supervisor: Clinical Director (Approved Licensed Supervisor)
Position Summary: The Counselor Intern at Into Action Wellness and Recovery Center VA is a pre-licensed clinician completing supervised hours toward licensure. The intern supports client recovery by co-facilitating therapy groups, participating in clinical documentation under supervision, and providing client engagement services under the guidance of the Clinical Director. This role is educational and developmental in nature while contributing meaningfully to the clinical team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with client assessments and treatment planning under direct supervision.
Co-facilitate therapy and psychoeducation groups alongside licensed staff.
Complete clinical notes and documentation with supervisory review.
Participate in supervision and feedback sessions with Clinical Director.
Attend case reviews and engage in collaborative care planning.
Develop competencies required for licensure through structured mentorship.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Foundational knowledge of counseling ethics and addiction recovery principles.
Willingness to learn and apply evidence-based practices.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to take supervision constructively.
Minimum Experience and Professional Qualifications:
Enrollment in or graduation from a masters-level counseling or related clinical program.
Registered as a supervisee in Virginia (LPC-R, LCSW-Supervisee, etc.) or working toward registration.
Work Conditions:
Full-time or part-time based on internship structure.
Works under the direct clinical supervision of the Clinical Director.
Participates in all mandatory training, clinical meetings, and supervision sessions.
