Job Summary
The Medication Assistant (MA) serves as caregiver who provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident per plan of care. Provides assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities that may include, but are not limited to, bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psycho-social support and other personal care to assigned resident. May assist the resident in transferring, re-positioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment and provides range of motion and passive exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, while creating a positive dining experience for the resident. May assist residents with meals and snacks; provide water and supplements as appropriate.
Administers prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within their scope of practice as defined by state regulations. Documents the outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary. Communicates changing condition, medication follow-up and care related concerns/responses to the charge nurse. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational. Provides assistance and documentation with wellness and recreational programs and encourages residents to participate.
Qualifications
High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
Minimum age of 18 preferred. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience preferred.
Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year. A minimum of 12 hours continuing education are required annually based on state requirements. Maintains all department specific required certifications. When applicable, may need a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
Iowa: Require Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing. CNA certification must be maintained with the State Board of Nursing. Successful completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course once CNA certification is obtained.
Minnesota: Must have nursing assistant certification, have completed the 75-hour course and be registered with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry. Successful completion of a state-approved Trained Medication Assistant course.
North Dakota: Require Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing. CNA certification must be maintained with the State Board of Nursing. Successful completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course once CNA certification is obtained. If working in an Assisted Living or Basic Care facility, Medication Assistant I certification required. If working in a skilled nursing facility, Medication Assistant II certification is required.
South Dakota: Must successfully complete the state approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course. CMA certification must be maintained with the State Board of Nursing.
For all Good Samaritan and Sanford nursing facilities: Must have the state required certified/trained medication aide certification (CMA or TMA). Active certified nursing assistant registration in state of practice, or ability to obtain within 120 days, is required.

Position Summary:
This position delivers programming, including CBT/CBI risk reduction programs, and related risk reduction interventions for adult residents at Norton Correctional Facility as assigned.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
This position is responsible for delivering Cognitive Based Intervention (CBI) skills-building classes at NCF while collaborating with others (facilitators, co-facilitators including KDOC staff, contract staff, volunteers and community partners) for case management support in the areas of job preparedness, cognitive issues and family relations for high risk and moderate offenders. Become trained and certified in the cognitive, family relations, career readiness curricula and all other trainings/curricula utilized by KDOC for residents; establish classes and facilitate them for high risk and moderate risk offenders. This position is also responsible to build Advanced Practice (AP) groups of completers, and conduct robust effective AP groups. Identify and implement programs/services for lower risk residents that have less lengthy class room time and address life skill needs such as, but not limited to, financial matters, housing issues and family relations, as needed, The core classes to be trained and certified in, and taught include but are not limited to Adult Core, Career Readiness, Improving Family Relationships, Substance Use Abuse Program, and other cognitive curricula utilized by KDOC, each as assigned. Other classes will be this position's responsibility, including classes of varying lengths/doses, addressing any area of risk/need, as identified by the facility, and directed by the supervisor. Develop and establish a specific strategy related to responsibility, level of motivation and readiness of residents to participate in cognitive classes and case planning; working with counselors and other staff to implement this strategy, including use of an assessment process and strategies to engage residents meaningfully in the process, and sustain that engagement. Also work with Reentry, Unit Team, facility leadership, and partners to ensure that programs are delivered at a time that ensure residents are able to participate in other opportunities, including private industry, work release, and other employment opportunities.
This position schedules, monitors and is responsible for all administrative aspects of the classes including forming the classes by working with unit team and through the referral process with direction by the supervisor. Establish a method to review the population in the facility to identify potential participants who are high risk or moderate risk for the appropriate classes which are being facilitated; work with unit team and other staff to engage these residents in classes/work done by this position. Assist supervisor in making placement decisions in classes, ensuring full use of all available slots; addressing readiness and responsivity; monitoring for quality/fidelity (and assisting colleagues at NCF and in other facilities/parole offices in monitoring their classes for quality/fidelity, as directed by the supervisor); track how many residents start and finish; monitor progress to reduce failures; ensure program tracking codes are accurately completed; ensure unit team, parole, mentors, and other staff have feedback about class progress as appropriate; make necessary Athena entries; and any other aspect of the administration of the classes, as directed by the supervisor. This position will also participate in all assigned fidelity and quality assurance strategies, interventions and activities, as assigned. Must prepare program participation summaries upon completion of such classes. Collect whatever data is requested by the statewide team as needed to assess the effectiveness of the services provided through this position.
Build on skills taught in the groups through 1:1 sessions, interacting with unit team and multi-discipline teams, all to ensure that the residents have the opportunity to continue practicing skills; that their behavior is the subject of effective responses; that motivation is addressed on an ongoing basis to continue building dose; and to ensure a warm transition, follow-up and aftercare. This position will be prepared to assist with and ensure security issues are addressed, seeking assistance from shift supervisors and security staff. This is to include proper dress and behavior of residents.
This position will perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Six months of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency's programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Substitution: A bachelor's degree in corrections/criminal justice or social services field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in corrections/criminal justice or social services field, or equivalent experience.
* One-year experience working with adult felons.
* One-year experience in training/skills development, preferably in assisting or co-facilitating in the delivering of CBT/CBI programming to adult felons.

Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational. Qualifications
High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of date into the position by being enrolled in a training program or in the process of obtaining certification through Endorsement. CNA training and certification required and provided by facility.
Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year. A minimum of 12 hours continuing education are required annually. Maintains all department specific required certifications.
When applicable, for applicable states, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
Dependent on facility and required responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver's license. Also must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of this position as per our Sanford Driving Policy per the leaders request.
