Raise vehicles using hydraulic jacks Unbolt wheels from vehicles and remove them, using lug wrenches and other hand and power tools. Separate tires from wheels, using rubber mallets and metal bars or mechanical tire changers. Inspect tire casings for defects, such as holes and tears. Seal punctures in tubeless tires by inserting adhesive material and expanding rubber plugs into punctures, using hand tools. Reassemble tires onto wheels. Identify and inflate tires correctly for the size and ply. Place wheels on balancing machines to determine counterweights required to balance wheels. Hammer required counterweights onto rims of wheels. Remount wheels onto vehicles. Locate punctures in tubeless tires by visual inspection or by immersing inflated tires in water baths and observing air bubbles. Replace valve stems and remove puncturing objects. Rotate tires to different positions on vehicles, using hand tools. Assist mechanics and perform other duties as directed. Inflate inner tubes and immerse them in water to locate leaks. Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district. Assist with maintenance of grounds. Education/Certification High School Diploma or GED Clear and valid Texas driver's license Experience 1 year experience in general building maintenance Special Knowledge/Skills * Ability to follow verbal and written instructions * Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures * Ability to communicate effectively (verbally) * Ability to operate hand and power tools * Ability to work independently * Ability to speak, read, and write English at an eighth-grade level Major Responsibilities and Duties Maintenance and Repair * Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass. * Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs. * Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment. * Complete repairs as directed on work orders or by the maintenance foreman. * Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds. * Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed. Safety * Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures. * Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor. * Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required. * Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
