Part-time Academic Professional Tutor is responsible for ensuring that students receive persistent, proactive, tutoring, mentoring, and learning support throughout their enrollment in Lansing Community College, with a focus on learning outcomes for student success - retention, persistence, and completion. Work assignments may be scheduled on campus Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, with evening and weekend assignments during Fall and Spring semesters to best serve students. They will participate in department training, tutor training and professional development, mentoring and annual peer reviews. Professional Tutors may be a liaison for academic programs in assigned subject areas and/or career communities. In all duties this position must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students and colleagues, in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and be fully committed to the mission and values of Lansing Community College and adherence to the community college philosophy.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or education equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in the field(s) of: Computer Information Technology or related field.
Tutoring experience, or supplemental instruction, or learning assistant, or teaching assistant, or academic coaching, or teaching experience.
Experience using Microsoft Office Applications with proficiency using Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Available to work on campus a minimum of 12 hours up to 30 hours per week throughout the academic year, including evening and weekend assignments Fall and Spring semesters.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree or higher Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

As a Substitute Teacher you will be responsible for...
Reporting to Substitute Planner at beginning of school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials. Follows sign in and out procedures as prescribed by the Principal.
Carrying out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher or following the lead of the classroom teacher is substituting for positions such as Dedicated Aide or Teacher Assistant. In the absence of a lead teacher, the substitute would be responsible for following the lead of the classroom teacher assistant.
Support in creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Support in guiding the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
Maintain a neat and orderly classroom. Straightens chairs, tables, clear chalkboard, etc.
Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures (if requested)
Indicate to students at beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school policies and expectations.
Ensure that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.
May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, recess duty, etc.
Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
Knows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems.

The Long-Term Substitute Art Teacher will be responsible for the direct supervision and instruction of elementary students during the regular teacher's absence. The substitute will follow the established curriculum as provided by the principal or the absent teacher, assign and collect homework as appropriate, and oversee student attendance and classroom management.
Essential Functions
Participate in the active supervision of students at all times.
Oversee the instruction of students following the plans provided by the regular teacher.
Follow daily routine of teacher and fill in for duties outside the classroom such as morning drop-off or pick-up as needed.

Position Qualifications
Degree in Elementary Education preferred.

What You'll Do
Saga Education's Lead MathTutors manage a small caseload of middle or high school students and promote academic success by focusing intently on providing high-dosage, high-impact tutoring that includes daily individualized instruction to students. During a typical school day, Lead Tutors will tutor students and facilitate lessons for half of the school day during a minimum of 3 class periods. The second half of the day, Lead Tutors will support students in the room who are not directly working with a remote tutor, facilitating small group activities, independent practice, assessments, or high-rigor math games. Lead Tutors will implement Saga's proprietary curriculum to foster academic success and help students reach their goals. In addition to offering academic support, Lead Tutors will serve as advocates and mentors for building strong and meaningful relationships with their students. Lead Tutors act as leaders at their sites, supporting Site Directors on day-to-day responsibilities focused on supporting students directly, as designated by their site. Some of the key responsibilities for this role include:
Assist Site Directors with creating new tutor orientation supports
Provide daily mathtutoring to your assigned caseload of students for a minimum of 3 class periods per day
Facilitate pull-out learning groups, independent practice, assessments etc. for students working on adaptive math platforms when not directly tutoring
Prep for tutoring sessions using Saga Curriculum
Lead team-building activities and assist new tutors with lesson planning
Manage the input and analysis of student data to differentiate math instruction for your students and adapt lesson plans as needed
Partner with the Site Director to review and analyze data and contribute to finding solutions to fill student knowledge gaps
Maintain attendance records, monitor student academic progress, and provide feedback
Maintain regular ongoing communication with parents/guardians via email, text, or phone, based on parent/guardian preference and record efforts
Partner with the Site Director to develop student incentives, trackers, and support with celebrations/awards/recognition
Proactively check and respond to emails and Slack daily, and regularly consult with your Site Director
Participate in weekly observation and feedback sessions with your Site Director or Director of Program, as well as weekly reflections, evaluations and professional development for continuous growth and to implement feedback to enhance student learning
Lead professional development sessions in an area of interest and contribute to tutor best practices library of resources
Build strong relationships with students to set expectations and manage behavior effectively
Build strong relationships with teachers, other staff, and the community
Assist with STAR assessment implementation and lead mixed reviews
Engage and assist with other duties as assigned by your Site Director and school site

Our REAL (Racial Equity in Academic Learning) HIT program provides individualized academic programs in high-priority DC schools. We are a franchise of the Huntington Learning Center, one of the largest tutoring companies in the country. Our DC HIT programs last year produced excellent results at our partner schools, with an average of over 5 months of grade level progress per student. We need passionate math teachers who are available during the school day for 2-3 hours per day to work with students in 3rd-8th grade. Teachers are not required to work with the full grade range, your range will be determined in your interview.
The REAL program is funded by OSSE to provide HIT (High-Impact Tutoring) to DC students in an effort to recover from learning loss during the pandemic. Teachers will work with students in up to a 4:1 ratio. You will work with the same small group of students who are assigned to you from beginning to end of the program. The goal of the program is to help students bring their foundational math skills up to grade level. We work closely with the math specialists at our partner schools to identify the correct starting levels and areas of opportunity in math for each student. This allows us to put together an individualized program for each student. Then, we adjust it regularly, based on their scores and your feedback, to make sure we get the most we can out of each session.
Teachers are expected to engage and interact with their students; we are looking for individuals in the community who see the importance of math skills and are passionate about helping our students become better students. We know that this will make our students more confident and provide the foundation they will need to be successful in all of their classes moving forward. There is no prep, planning or looking for curriculum. You will be paid for simply teaching the assigned program to your assigned students, each at their own pace.
