The New School is seeking a long-term substitute to teach Chemistry in the Upper School during the Spring Semester (starting in January 2026) of the 2025-26 school year.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach two sections of Chemistry and one section of AP Chemistry
Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned
Follow the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher, and refine or provide additional planning, as needed
Provide brief reports in writing on class activities at regular intervals for the teacher
Encourage, monitor, and promote student progress
Conduct assessments to monitor student progress; maintain records of grades; collaborate with the teacher or division head to provide quarter and semester grades and reports, as needed
Maintain student confidentiality
Assume the responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, during lunch and activity periods, and in all school settings
Interact in a professional manner with colleagues, students, and parents
Work cooperatively with all school personnel
Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates
Other duties as assigned
