As an Equipment/Mechanical Engineer Intern, you will support Regional Construction & Mining operations. This position is responsible for the planning, scheduling, budgeting, utilization and reliability of a construction and mining equipment fleet. The position will deal with day to day as well as long term issues related to an equipment fleet. The position's main focus will be to improve equipment reliability as well as implement, monitor, audit, and manage preventative maintenance programs.

Responsibilities
* Understand and comply with all federal, state, and company health, safety, and environmental requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Our US Mine Waste Team is seeking a full-time Geotechnical Engineering Intern - Summer 2026 to work out of our Anchorage, AK office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.
This 12-week internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program that is scheduled to start on May 18, 2026. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.
Your Impact
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal of developing technical, social, and ethical skills.
Learn basic principles of Civil and Geotechnical Engineering as they apply to tailings management and the Mine Waste industry and engage with the local Anchorage team that supports civil and geotechnical projects throughout Alaska.
Assist our US Mine Waste team with project research, valuable field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
Gain technical project experience by supporting preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates; collect and maintain project documentation.
Receive technical training and mentor support from the Mine Waste team in addition to the opportunity to explore WSP's extensive project portfolio and the kind of solutions we provide for our clients.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering Degree or related undergraduate degree with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
Must be 18 or older.
Demonstrated interest in environment, heavy earthwork, construction, mining, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
Basic proficiency with office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.
Ability to travel 20 - 80% of the duration of employment, including air travel and boat travel to potential work sites in remote areas of Alaska. Work may include staying in dormitory-style accommodations at a mine site.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
