Maintain laboratory logbooks and the Hold/Disposition Log. Complete and report product testing using the Product Testing Record. About the Role The role of the Cytotechnologist is to perform complex technical tasks involved in the preparation and screening of cytology slides for evidence of cancer or other pathologic conditions. What You'll Be Doing Receive specimens and assign accession numbers to specimens received in the accession log book. Gives a gross description to each specimen received. Orders appropriate cytology requisitions and completes template in Medent computer system as required. Files cytology slides and requisitions after the final report is signed out. Perform and record daily cytology QI indicators such as pap stain adequacy and specimen refrigerator temperature. Specific Cytology Duties Performs microscopic examination of cytology slides and prepares a preliminary report of diagnostic findings for the pathologist. JOB SCOPE The Clinical Laboratory Technologist will perform tasks to serve a high throughput testing laboratory. Responsibilities include but not limited to: Under the general direction of the Laboratory Director and Clinical Laboratory Manager, follow clinical laboratory testing procedures and policies in the performance of routine and specialized tests. Identify the source and nature of test problems and make appropriate recommendations. Apply scientific methods in problem solving and assist in evaluation of new methods and techniques. Assure that quality control criteria are met and adhere to established laboratory policies in handling hazardous substances. Record necessary documentation to comply with various agency regulations. Perform required instrument maintenance at the prescribed time and log appropriately. Assure a clean work area and technical clean-up at the end of each shift. Assist in maintaining sufficient supplies at each workstation. Assist in development and evaluation of new procedures and protocols.
