This position may assist with fine needle aspiration collection and NGYN and FNA screening. Proficiency testing and continuing education are required for all cytotechnologists. This position is required to keep daily workload records in accordance with CLIA '88. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Completion of cytotechnology program from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) school. ASCP certification or eligible required. Students may be hired at the job title equivalent of a future Cytotechnologist under the following conditions: Student is enrolled in a cytotechnology program at CAAHEP school with a completion date within six (6) months of hire. Student must pass the ASCP Board Certification at the first opportunity but no later than 3 months after program completion A Bachelor's degree is required for individuals registered by the ASCP after September 1, 1994. Good interpersonal and organizational skills required. This position requires attaining 90% on an internal proficiency test at the time of interview. This position requires passing annually the required CAP-PT (or approved alternative by CLIA). This position requires maintaining 80% proficiency on quarterly GYN CAP mailings as well as 24 continuing education credits each year. Assists when needed to obtain specimens including drawing from appropriate sources and correct tubes based on the age and ease with blood may be obtained. Maintains knowledge and can perform correct preparation of specimen handling and storage requirements for transportation to outside testing laboratories to include preparing cytology, surgical specimens. Selects the procedure that is appropriate for the request for service and congruent with patient considerations. Prepares reagent and primary reference materials. Selects, performs evaluates, and monitors the performance of non-routine and specialized test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols. Understands appropriate clinical states in relation to test results and recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunction; locates, implements corrections and correlates data to verify results prior to release of patient results. Participates in the Laboratory CAP Proficiency Program and maintains required competent Level for compliance. Participates in Laboratory accreditation by maintaining laboratory documentation, knowledge and skill levels in relations to approved Laboratory procedures and policies as well as Hospital Policies. Completes all required competency assessments and training within prescribed due dates. Recognizes and communicates indicators of malfunction of instruments, tests and notifies Medical Technologists or Technical Medical Laboratory Supervisors. Documents all action outlined within the Laboratory Quality Assurance policies and procedures. Participates in the Laboratory Quality Assurance Program by formally reporting Concerns or Errors as outlined in Laboratory Quality Assurance Policies and Procedures. Participates in continuous process improvements, validations and proficiency testing. Tracks, enters, and monitors patient files using the Laboratory Information System. Maintains laboratory equipment, including completing logs and maintenance, i.e. clean, sterilize, maintain, and shut down laboratory equipment, accessories, and instruments used in research experiments, daily and weekly as required. Each individual performs only those high complexity tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commen surate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities. Follow the laboratory's proce dures for specimen handling and proc essing, test analyses, reporting and maintain records of patient test results. Maintain records that dem onstrate that proficiency testing sam ples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and pro cedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Follow the laboratory's estab lished policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable lev els of performance. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and ei ther must correct the problems or im mediately notify the general super visor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, manager or director. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Perform high complexity testing under the onsite, direct supervision of a general supervisor as defined in the CLIA regulations. Accepts other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications We are seeking to hire a Molecular Technologist with varying levels of experience. Molecular Technologist I - Bachelor's degree in scientific field required and may have less than 1 year of relevant work experience. Molecular Technologist II - Bachelor's degree in scientific field required and 3+ years of relevant molecular laboratory experience. Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution. Demonstrate skills in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. General working knowledge of the internet for business use, and skilled in operating office equipment. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution. Demonstrate proficiency in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot. RNA and DNA extraction experience. Nucleic acid extraction experience. Next Generation Sequencing experience Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for biohazards and chemicals, as well as quality control procedures and regulations. Physical Demands Will work at a computer some of the time as well as need to keep inventory and ordering records requiring the use of copiers and PDF scanners. Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail. Ability to pass a visual color discrimination test. Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required. Must possess ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. May be required to handle and/or may have exposure to blood-borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formaldehyde, xylene, Clorox bleach, DAB and alcohol, which emit fumes. The formaldehyde, xylene, and DAB are carcinogenic. Other 3rd Shift Hours: 9:30pm - 8:00am This position requires evenings/nights, weekends and Holidays.
