Qualifications
Education:
College graduate, Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or equivalent) required. If hired prior to September 2014, five years experience as a MLS may be considered in lieu of registration.
Experience:
Three to five years experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and a minimum two years as a level II Medical Laboratory Scientist with in depth knowledge of the global laboratory operation. Three (3) years of comparable experience demonstrating in depth knowledge of global laboratory operation may be considered in lieu of internal level II experience.

Responsibilities
Performs various laboratory tests, evaluates data, correlate results with pathologic and physiologic states and patient therapy to determine validity and reasonableness of data.
Evaluate and calculates quality control statistics to assess accuracy, reproducibility and validity of laboratory methods.
Performs analytical and decision-making functions without direct supervision, recognizes unexpected results, and take necessary corrective action.
Integrates and relates laboratory data generated by various sections in making judgments regarding possible discrepancies.
Assists in the preparation and presentation of teaching materials for the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology.
Performs preventative and most corrective maintenance and repairs on sophisticated and often computerized laboratory equipment. Calibrates laboratory instruments to assure accuracy.
Demonstrates knowledge and theory behind instrumentation. Diagnoses laboratory instrument malfunctions, and decides when back-up methods must be initiated. Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas and performs all technical procedures.
Evaluates and/or develops new test procedures, monitors them for unexpected problems or sources of error.
Researches, reviews and write technical procedures.
Collects and controls laboratory specimens.
Assures the quality and timeliness of patient results by investigating any problem involving specimen collection, results reporting and turn-around times.
Recognizes unexpected results, errors and problems with patient test. Identifies the technical instrumental or physiologic cause, such as patient variable or interfering substances.
Maintains and communicates department records of tests performed, test results and equipment maintenance.
Assists in the overall operations of the laboratory including utilization of resources and laboratory safety regulations.
Maintains regulatory and safety compliance (i.e. CAP, AABB) in area of responsibility.
Assumes primary responsibility for accurate and timely completion of all testing performed within all areas of responsibility.
Maintains 12 hours of continuing education per year, and cross-training in a minimum of two diverse technical areas.
Must be capable of performing all testing within areas of primary responsibility.
Assumes operational management authority for areas of responsibility in the absence of senior management personnel.
Conserves hospital resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to perform job duties.
Contribute to departmental operations by performing other related duties as may be required and/or assigned.
Contributes to effective customer relations by assisting patients, visitors, physicians to resolve expressed concerns and by demonstrating a welcoming and helpful attitude.
Ensures that professional and personal activities conform to Memorial Medical Center strategic plan and philosophy regarding the Guest Relations Program.
Performs other related work as required or requested.

Assists the director, administrator, medical director, and manager in assuring compliance with governmental, accreditation, and hospital standards.
Instructs and medical technology students, fellows, residents, new laboratory personnel, and other hospital professionals in laboratory procedures as needed.
Assists in the development and evaluation of new procedures and protocols.
Maintains knowledge and utilizes appropriate resources to provide consultative, educational, technical, and informational services as needed to families, patients, and hospital personnel.
Ensures the accuracy and completeness of results, quality control/quality assurance activities, and documentation.
Participates in competency evaluations and continuing education.
Ensures proper handling of new requests for “send-out” testing to include completion of forms and submission to appropriate Medical Director for evaluation.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in chemical or biological sciences, or associate's degree in laboratory sciences or medical laboratory technology which consists of 60 semester hours including a minimum of either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or equivalent combination of science courses (i.e. chemistry, biology, medical laboratory technology) or, qualified as a technologist under the provisions in 42CFR493.1489(b)(2)(B)(4) or 42CFR493.1489(b)(2)(B)(5)(i) for high complexity testing on or before April 24, 1995.

Your role at Baxter
The Quality Lab Associate I encompasses the biological, chemical and physical analyses on pharmaceutical products (biologics and drugs) through all stages of the manufacturing process from incoming raw materials to finished goods, and environmental monitoring programs.
*Night shift: 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule (including weekends)*
A candidate must not be allergic to Penicillin and Cephalosporin or their related products and /or materials.
What you'll be doing
Conduct critical chemical and physical analyses on Raw Materials, Initial, In-process and Final products, and samples collected from environmental monitoring programs at Baxter manufacturing facilities. Work under minimum supervision.
Use sophisticated laboratory instrumentation (HPLC, FTIR, UV, GC etc) and computer systems to collect and record data.
Perform advanced assays requiring precise analytical skills and understanding of biology and chemistry principles.
Maintain data integrity and ensure compliance with company SOPs and specifications, FDA, GLP, QSR and cGMP regulations.
Participate in functions involving teams, which impact production, increase efficiency, solve problems, generate cost savings and improve quality.
Perform laboratory and manufacturing audits as required. Audit and update, as required, plant SOPs.
Perform equipment maintenance and calibrations as required.
Document the completion of testing in Notebooks, Controlled documents, Forms and LIMS and maintain accurate and complete quality records.
Follow, understand and comply with Baxter SOP's and policies on cGMP's and safety. Maintain a clean, safe and organized lab area, and potentially assume responsibility to ensure that others maintain their lab areas.
Investigate deviations and write exception/OOL/OOS/OOT documents.
Support improvement projects and drive efficiency through utilization of LEAN management principles (i/e/ 6S, Kaizens etc).
Proactively and cooperatively communicate with peers and management to ensure awareness of progress and issues; recommend solutions when issues arise.
Maintain and meet the highest standards in quality, customer service and regulatory compliance.
Other projects as assigned.
What you'll bring
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or science related degree with 6 months or more of experience.
Knowledge of Empower CDS and LIMS is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of GLP, cGMP requirements and familiar with USP/ICH guidelines is preferred but not required.
Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude in a highly dynamic environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when required.
Must not be color blind.

The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, commission, and/or long-term incentive. Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality

Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

Requirements:

Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist level
ASCP or AMT certification is preferred
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus
High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
