Responsibilities
Support the lead teacher in the daily care and supervision of infants and toddlers
Prepare, bottle-feed, and properly store breast milk and formula following health and safety guidelines
Change diapers and support toilet readiness as developmentally appropriate
Maintain consistent routines for feeding, napping, and play
Comfort, soothe, and respond promptly to infants' and toddlers' needs
Engage children through age-appropriate sensory play, music, stories, and activities

SCOPE OF POSITION:

* Performing regular wilderness and backcountry patrols as a trainee or under the direction of other wilderness rangers, ranging from day trips to multi-day overnight camping trips, via foot. Routine backcountry patrol duties and responsibilities include: collecting inventory and monitoring data and evaluations, patrol reports, visitor contacts, routine trail maintenance, and inspection, inventory, and repair of backcountry facilities (campgrounds, pit toilets, and patrol cabins). Incumbent will be expected to assist with search and rescue (SAR) operations and perform emergency medical services (EMS) as needed.
* Assisting other wilderness rangers as a trainee with various projects in the backcountry in each district as needs arise. Examples would include evaluation and rehabilitation of campsite facilities, pit toilets, and/or trail infrastructure. Other duties include vegetation monitoring, wilderness character monitoring, campsite evaluations, and backcountry resource impacts.
* Assisting with field implementation of the Wilderness Implementation Schedule (WIS) as a student trainee, which includes the strategies for managing the wilderness and backcountry park-wide. Assist with wilderness character monitoring using Glacier's wilderness character monitoring format.
* As a trainee, monitoring bear activity and participating in bear management training, and entering data into the Bear Management Inventory and Monitoring System (BIMS). May also participate in other park training in EMS, SAR, and Backcountry Operations as a trainee.
* Become trained in Leave No Trace outdoor ethics and be able to demonstrate and explain to visitors.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Physical Demands: The incumbent should be in excellent physical condition and be able to hike, backpack or ride stock long distances through rugged terrain in the Park's wilderness. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily outdoors in a remote wilderness setting. Incumbent will be exposed to a variety of temperature extremes and climatic conditions common to the Northern Rockies. Elevation will range from 3,200 ft. to over 10,000 ft. above sea level. Extreme elevation gains or losses will be common while patrolling the wilderness where steep, rocky trails, hazardous snow fields, swift water crossings, loose scree and talus, thick brush and blow down and other terrain features may make wilderness travel hazardous and strenuous. The incumbent will be required to camp overnight in the wilderness for an extended period of time and should be both mentally and physically prepared to cope with the inherent potential hazards associated with hiking and camping in grizzly and black bear country. Incumbent may be required to paddle/row non-motorized watercraft on Class II swift-water or greater.
