NOTE: This position is available for full-time remote work within the contiguous Unites States with travel to NuScale physical offices as needed. Preference is for candidates available to work from our Corvallis, OR office location. Reporting to the Manager, NSSS Piping and Integration, this position performs design and analysis of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) pipe systems in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements. This position is part of the NSSS design engineering organization that generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. All work within the NSSS design organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Performs piping design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III Class 1, 2, and 3 piping systems using the Bentley AutoPIPE computer program in accordance with the requirements of NB, NC, ND-3600, respectively.
* Performs piping design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III Class 1, 2, and 3 piping components using the ANSYS computer program in accordance with the requirements of NB-3200 (preferred).
* Performs pipe support design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III NF supports using hand calculations or ANSYS computer program.
* Performs static and dynamic analysis including response spectrum and time history analysis to calculate stresses due to deadweight, thermal expansion, thermal gradients, seismic events, and fluid transients.
* Prepare and review engineering specifications, drawings, CAD models, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of piping components associated with NSSS systems. The development of Drawings and CAD models is based on collaboration with drafters and requires the engineer to reviews models that have been developed in Siemens NX.
* Offers design solutions (piping re-route, reconfiguration of supports, etc.) in order to satisfy piping stress criteria with assistance from subject matter experts.
* Works on complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas.
* Interprets scope and project requirements.
* Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications.

Position Summary

Your Role:
The Research and Development Engineer will lead projects driving the next generation of sustainable, high-performance products. This role owns multiple initiatives from concept through commercialization, including new materials, tooling design, and process trials. Lead and manage multiple material, product, and process development projects from formulation to commercialization.
Design, communicate, and execute structured experiments and trials in partnership with technicians and cross-functional teams.

Collect, analyze, and interpret trial data using DOE and statistical methods to draw clear conclusions and drive decisions.

Collaborate with operations and manufacturing teams to transition successful projects into production while supporting scale-up and validation.

Qualifications
We need you to have:
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. (Advanced degrees with related experience)
5+ years of experience in manufacturing, product development, or applied R&D (injection molding or extrusion preferred).
Proven ability to lead hands-on trials, analyze complex data, and translate insights into actionable improvements.
Deep understanding of polymers, tooling design, and processing principles.
Proficiency in SolidWorks, Excel, and statistical analysis tools; experience with DOE and structured data analysis required.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly across levels.
Demonstrated drive for innovation, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
Passion for sustainability, materials innovation, and transforming concepts into scalable manufacturing solutions.

The NSSS Mechanical Systems Engineering organization is focused on the NuScale Power Module System Design including nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) component design inspection and testing in accordance with nuclear industry codes, standards and regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Manager, NSSS Appurtenance Design, the person in this role will perform mechanical engineering assignments on the nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) including system and detailed component design. Review and evaluate various plant systems to ensure design, performance, inspection and testing requirements are defined. Prepares, checks, and reviews engineering reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, and other design documents. Collaborate with a multi-discipline team on very complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas and proposes innovative design solutions requiring a significant amount of independent judgment. Interprets scope and project requirements. Plans, organizes, and performs complex assignments in support of developing licensing scope.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Generate technical requirements for NSSS systems, structures and components.

Support the preparation and review of engineering specifications, drawings, reports and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of systems, structures and components associated with the nuclear steam supply system.
