Salary $43,680 Ideal Candidate The Hillsborough County Solid Waste Department is seeking a Solid Waste Transfer Equipment Operator to operate semi-tractor trailers, roll-off trucks and other motorized equipment and vehicles. The ideal candidate will have advanced experience in semi-tractor trailer operation. Preferably, candidate will possess knowledge of solid waste operations. Candidate must have the ability to be exposed to loud sounds in a waste transfer station, handle inordinate smells from trash and exposure to dirt-filled grounds. Candidate will also perform manual labor in outside environment, exposed to heat, sun, high humidity, rain and other adverse weather conditions. Candidate will walk/stand for prolonged periods of time (approximately six (6) hours) per day. The job also requires frequent fine manipulations, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds, and occasional bending, crawling, climbing and stooping. Candidate must possess a Class A Commercial driver's license and have the ability to pass a DOT/CDL physical examination annually. Checks and ensures that equipment is serviced and in good working condition; makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and ensures that periodic maintenance and major repairs are performed. Performs daily safety inspections and observes proper safety practices and regulations when operating or working around equipment. May supervise subordinate operators, trades helpers, or laborers or act as a lead driver. Uses manual tools to pick up litter at the facility and ensure proper disposal.
