SIGN ON BONUS: $4,000 SCHEDULE: 0800-1700 This position serves to primarily assist clinic healthcare providers with patient examinations, phone calls, treatments and procedures as they may be performed within a clinic setting under the direction of the provider; within the scope of the professional license. This position maintains responsibility for patient medical record and documentation, collection and preparation of specimens, and administration of medications as ordered by the provider.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities:
* Graduate of an accredited program for LPNs or CMAs
* Certification/Licensure in the States of Iowa.
* Previous acute or clinic experience.
* Current American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Code BLS required. New employees certify within three (3) months after hire date.
* Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
* Must possess a valid Iowa driver's license and meet satisfactory motor vehicle record requirements, if applicable.
* Must maintain and provide proof of his/her own auto insurance policy, if applicable.
* High degree of empathetic listening, tact and kindness toward others.
* Ability to communicate well verbally. Must work effectively as a member of a team.

Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and pull a pallet weighing 2,000-2,500 lbs with a jack.
Must be able to lift, twist, and bend for extended periods.
Must have a good driving record and reliable transportation.

At Mahaska Health the polysomnographic technologist works under medical supervision by a physician, Director of Cardiopulmonary Services or designated representative to perform services integral to the Mahaska Health Partnership Sleep Center.

Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:
Performs sleep testing on a varied population, in an accurate manner consistent with policy and procedure.
Explains the procedure to the patient and/or other appropriate individuals (i.e., family or guardians of children or individuals who might not be able to understand reason for test).
Educates patients with probable diagnosis and treatment options.
Remains current in new advances in sleep medicine, including procedures, equipment, and legislation.
Proficient in properly titrating CPAP/Bi-level pressure management and advanced sleep disorder treatment procedures.
Follows protocol for the titration of oxygen.
Keeps accurate record of patients, equipment, and charges.
Calibrates equipment before use.
Recognize and respond appropriately to patient's medical problems and physiological events, especially cardiac dysrhythmias, respiratory events, and seizures.
Ensure safety and welfare of all patients, including those patients with special needs.
Wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) when performing job duties.
Ability to read and understand SDS sheets.
Ability to handle hazardous material.
Check availability and function of emergency equipment.
Properly disinfect and sterilize appropriate equipment, electrodes, and transducers.
Take the needs of the individual into consideration when performing procedure/setting up modality, i.e., speaks slower and/or louder while working with an elderly patient, or comforts the mentally handicapped individual. Takes the emotional and spiritual needs of the patient into consideration while performing the test.
Implement and document quality assurance activities to ensure optimum performance in all aspects of the sleep lab.
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
Is familiar with all equipment used; can troubleshoot equipment as necessary.
Evaluates equipment for purchase and submits recommendations to department director.
Puts away supplies, equipment, etc, as needed.
Keeps an inventory of departmental supplies.
Participates in QA/QI/PI activities.
All other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Requirements include but are not limited to:
Graduate of AMA-approved school of Sleep Medicine, Respiratory Care and/or two years EEG experience preferred.
Prior training as a nurse, EEG technologist, respiratory care practitioner, pulmonary function technologist, or other allied health professional is preferred.
Membership in one or more professional associations related to sleep/wake technology is preferred: American Association of Sleep Technologists (AAST), American Society of Electroencephalographic Technologist (ASET), American Sleep Disorders Association (ASDA), or American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
License/Certificate preferred: CRT, RRT, RPSGT, CRSGT, REEGT, RST, SDS or CCSH.
Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of American Heart Association.
Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at time of hire or attend within 6 months of start date.
Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
