Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician Lead is responsible for providing pharmacy services, including, but not limited to, dispensing, preparing, compounding, and delivering pharmaceuticals, performing inventory control, compliance audits, financial transactions, providing customer service, and/or maintaining pharmacy records; is responsible for calculation, measurement, and compounding in accordance with USP and other best practice standards; works as part of an interdisciplinary patient care team, and under direction of the Clinical Pharmacist(s), Clinical Pharmacy Specialists, and/or other pharmacist leaders; performs technical pharmacy tasks such as medication history collection or specialized medication handling, compounding, and or processing; is a role model to other departmental team members and actively participates in the onboarding and training of staff under the direction and guidance of Pharmacy Leadership; may provide oversight to daily operations of the department, assisting with compliance activities, supporting the pharmacy leaders and pharmacists-in-charge; is designed to utilize and extend knowledge and competency while performing technical pharmacy functions of the Ambulatory Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy, Infusion Pharmacy, or Pharmaceutical Research Center.

Primary Responsibilities
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.
Selects, packages, and labels medication and supply orders for inspection and approval by a pharmacist. Processes medication orders following proper protocol including accurate data entry of patient information, insurance information (if applicable), and medication order details for verification. Selects correct drug product, fills, and matches labels for each medication order.
Maintains, tracks, and monitors inventory levels of medications and pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with established par levels and informs the appropriate individual of stock needs and shortages.
Uses general knowledge of medical informatics including order‐entry systems, automated dispensing devices, bar‐code technology systems, which may include packaging devices and/or bar‐code medication administration (BCMA) systems, clinical integrated systems, and system/application maintenance in the performance of daily duties.
Delivery of medications, pharmacy products, and/or pharmacy services to patients, agents of the patient, or patient care areas in compliance with regulatory standards pertaining to medication handling, storage, and/or security
Calculates, measures, and compounds medications in accordance with USP 795, USP 797, USP 800, and/or other established practices and policies; may include non-sterile compounding, sterile compounding, and hazardous medication compounding.
In collaboration with the health care team, pharmacist, and/or patient, identifies and resolves, in partnership with a pharmacist when required, patient-specific medication management or medication therapy needs.
Obtains detailed, comprehensive medication history from various sources using strong communication skills for further pharmacist verification, and/or performs specialized medication handling and/or compounding practices for unique patient populations.
Acts as a role model, provides training to team members, provides daily oversight to operations and/or compliance activities, and supports the pharmacist-in-charge and/or leader with the daily activities of the pharmacy technicians.

2 years of relevant in-patient pharmacy experience in a hospital setting
Maryland Technician Registration

Job Summary
Responsible for providing medication therapy management services, both clinical and distributive tasks as necessary, in collaboration with other providers to assure that drug therapy is safe, effective, efficient, and cost-effective. Pharmacy services provided include, but are not limited to, medication distribution, medication therapy monitoring, medication orders management, drug information, and drug dosing; ensures that patient care is maintained through compliance with the department's policies, rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Pharmacy, and other applicable regulatory bodies; provides oversight and direction to Pharmacy Technicians working within their area of practice; may provide training and education to onboarding team members and other learners, as requested through practical and didactic experiences; acts independently within the scope of their license and areas of expertise with the help of general policies, procedures and practice guidelines with support from Pharmacy Leadership; may be required to act in the capacity of another pharmacy leader in their absence or when designated to do so.

Primary Responsibilities

About the Job We have an opportunity available for a patient-focused Clinical Pharmacy Specialist I to join our Palliative Care team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Under limited supervision provides a higher level of direct patient care pharmacy services for an assigned specialized patient population to assure adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices. Advises/consults with patients and their families and with the medical and nursing staff. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Evaluates therapeutic options and provides clinical guidance to staff clinical level I and II pharmacists residents and residents. Monitors drug therapy and develops patient care plans of assigned patients.
* Evaluates medication orders for accuracy and thoroughness. Resolves discrepancies of medication orders through communication with the physician clinical pharmacist or nursing staff and dispenses medication. Enters and verifies computer entries and data for drug orders as needed.
* Provides functional supervision for support personnel. Monitors attendance and work quality organizes and prioritizes resources based on workload and productivity and directs the workflow of support personnel. Ensures departmental standards and time frames are met.
* Participates autonomously in-patient care rounds. Reviews patient specific data to evaluate patient's status and medication needs and develops a therapeutic plan. Counsels/educates patient on their medications e.g. to correct dosing schedule and duplicate therapy.
* Responds to evaluative and/or non-evaluative drug information requests.
* Assures compliance of prescribers with clinical practice guidelines and other drug policies or third-party prescription benefit management procedures minimizes non-formulary drug use eliminates therapeutic duplication. Makes recommendations for appropriate alternative medications duplicate therapy and dosage changes.
* Takes a leadership role in continuous quality improvement efforts and represents the department as an interdisciplinary interface in the assigned specialty areas.
* Participates in the development of drug and disease state-based clinical practice guidelines that also influence clinical practice. This responsibility includes providing biomedical literature evaluations to various other committees as needed. These evaluations often require detailed analysis and evaluation of multiple references as well as the biomedical literature.
* Writes reviews and presents high-quality evidence-based documents such as newsletters SBARs therapeutic interchanges drug monographs class reviews and drug shortage mitigation strategies among others ensuring time-sensitive completion and accuracy of clinical content.
* Serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents on clinical rotation.
* Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
