What you will do:
The Phlebotomist I will perform a variety of routine and special phlebotomy procedures as authorized by the Manager/Director.

Description
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week phlebotomy float position. Must be able to work Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5pm and two weekends per month. Flexibility with hours is needed for clients who may start earlier or stay later than the posted hours. Must be comfortable driving to client sites in the Buffalo Grove area and the surrounding suburbs. Base hourly rate includes float differential compensation.

Job Summary:
As a mobile phlebotomist, you will be critical in establishing and delivering our mission to provide high-quality healthcare services to our patients. Your expertise in blood collection, specimen handling, and dedication will contribute to accurate diagnosis and treatment plans, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients. Hours will be flexible and based on coverage need. Locations blood draws are completed: Northlake, Forest Park, Streamwood, Chicago, Evergreen, Oak Lawn, LaGrange, Hillside, Sandwich, sometimes patients homes.
Responsibilities:
Phlebotomist travels to and from locations requesting collection services.
Transport and move required equipment for phlebotomy and/or laboratory testing collections as needed.
Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures with precision and care, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
Phlebotomist collects and labels specimens accurately, ensuring proper identification and maintaining the integrity of the samples.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control protocols and ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Phlebotomist provides exceptional patient care, demonstrating empathy and professionalism while easing any anxieties or concerns they may have.
Keep accurate records of specimens collected, ensuring documentation is complete and current.
Processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing. Prepares specimens for reference laboratory dispatch and testing. Resolves ambiguous and/or unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate personnel. Refers unresolved orders to the originator for further clarification before collecting samples or processing specimens.
Makes the appropriate leadership aware of unresolved orders.
Collaborate with management to establish and implement workflow optimization.
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure inventory control with the necessary supplies.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines, such as CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), CAP, and state certification requirements.
Monitor phlebotomy practices to identify areas for improvement.
Train and mentor personnel on proper phlebotomy techniques, safety protocols, and compliance with regulations.
Phlebotomist drives to collection sites as assigned.
Plan workflow and schedule to maximize productivity (travel times, weather delays, traffic considerations, etc.)
Ensure the vehicle is well-maintained, fueled, and ready to go.
Cross train to perform EKG studies.
Qualifications:
High school diploma (or equivalent) or higher.
Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
Ability to navigate traffic and changing travel conditions.
Previous phlebotomy experience
Phlebotomist certification by ASCP (or equivalent) preferred.
Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and other relevant software.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to take on diverse challenges and additional duties.

Under the direction of the Administrative Nurse III, the phlebotomist screens patients who present themselves for phlebotomy services to determine the need for any special instructions. The phlebotomist will be responsible for entering and verifying patient demographic data, collect specimens from patients, order lab tests, generate lists, and label specimens for facility analysis.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Greet patients and perform Phlebotomy on patients of all ages.
* Prepares instruments and/or area according to the specifications of the procedure; maintains and cleans all instruments and/or areas.
* Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique. Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
* Reviews and processes procedure orders; documents and communicates incomplete or invalid procedures.
* Screens patient(s) prior to a procedure; explains components of procedures to patient(s)
* Conducts procedures; determines the best location of obtaining specimens.
* Observes and monitors patient(s) throughout procedure(s); advises of any abnormal indicators.

* Evaluate completeness of specimens/specimen requests. Perform manual computer procedures for test requesting and canceling tests ordered as needed.
* Maintains current knowledge of and adheres to all government, industry, or institutional regulatory guidelines.
* Performs support duties such as answering phones, assisting with inventory and records management.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* One (1) year (12 months) of work experience as a phlebotomist within the last five years.
* Possession of a current/valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification.
