In 1894 four nurses in Great Britain formed the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
These physical therapy treatments were promoted and applied during the outbreak of polio in 1916.
In 1918, reconstruction aide then became the official term to refer to individuals practicing physical therapy.
A research paper on the therapy was published in the PT Review, in March 1921, in the United States.
Physical therapy was then pushed as a treatment for polio by Georgia Warm Springs Foundation in 1924.
The manual therapy was popularized worldwide in 1974, when the ‘International Federation of Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy’ was established.
