Francis Marion University and the Facilities Department invite applications for a Plumber who, under general supervision, perform duties requiring a high degree of skill and technical competence in the design, installation, repair, and maintenance of systems and equipment for waste collection and the generation, storage regulation, utilization, and distribution of liquids and gasses such as water, distilled water, propane, air, steam, etc.
Duties include but are not limited to:
* Designs, installs, repairs, and/or replaces plumbing systems and component elements and equipment.
* Installs duct work systems, including sheet metal and fiberglass and all the various requirements for and methods of incorporating accouterments such as the various types of fire dampers, grills, diffusers, turning vanes, etc.
* Inspects and repairs plumbing and ductwork.
* When required, installs, repairs, or replaces building components, including locks, door closers, doors, windows, glass, walls, and sections thereof, vinyl wall covering, masonry, carpet, tile, vinyl tile, railings, roofs, and miscellaneous other elements of building and items of equipment.
* Performs other welding, sheet metal, and other metal working design, repair, and improvement services for the Building Maintenance department and other maintenance departments; makes repairs and improvements as required, particularly on Building Maintenance and Grounds Maintenance equipment.
* Other duties as assigned.
State Requirements: A high school diploma and experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air, water, gas or waste disposal systems. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis.
FM Preferences: High school education with specialized training in specific trades skills required. Additional education and training in applicable trades would be helpful. Three to five years' experience in applicable trade work. Welding, soldering, silver soldering, PVC, cast iron joining, and general plumbing required. General electrical, masonry, carpentry, and painting preferred. Must be able to see well enough to read chemical labels accurately in various lighting conditions and to operate equipment safely at normal speeds of production. Must be able to hear well enough to operate equipment safely while being aware of subtle sound cues from other traffic and from equipment being operated.
