The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes and facility layouts to enhance production efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role will manage key engineering projects from concept to completion, including equipment specification, procurement, and installation. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on problem-solver with a strong foundation in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
Process Design & Improvement:
Design and improve manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assembly, fabrication, and material handling.
Analyze production workflows, identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, and implement robust solutions to improve throughput and reduce waste.
Develop and maintain standard work instructions, process flow diagrams, and manufacturing documentation.
Equipment & Facility Projects:
Develop detailed specifications for new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
Manage the procurement process, including vendor selection, quoting, and capital justification (ROI analysis) as well as RFP and RFQ's.
Oversee the installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment, ensuring it meets all performance and safety requirements.
Lead plant layout projects, using CAD software to design efficient and ergonomic work cells and facility flows.
Project Management:
Manage cross-functional engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
Coordinate with internal teams (operations, maintenance, quality) and external vendors to ensure successful project execution.
Develop project timelines, track milestones, and provide regular status updates to leadership.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing:
Implement and champion lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping) across the facility.
Lead and participate in continuous improvement events and initiatives to drive a culture of operational excellence.
Use data analysis and root cause analysis tools to solve complex manufacturing problems.
Qualifications and Experience:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
2-5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing engineering role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Proven experience with plant layouts, process design, and equipment installation projects.
Demonstrated experience with project management, including managing timelines and budgets.
Strong understanding and practical application of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
Proficiency with 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
Preferred:
Experience in an industrial environment, such as manufacturing.
Experience with automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing technology.

Seeking an Electrical Engineering Major, AND Computer Science/Software Major The Design Engineering (Spring/Fall) Co-Op is a 6-9 month immersive design experience. This program allows participants to step away from their academic studies and engage in real-world engineering challenges directly tied to the company's strategic objectives.
Located at Watlow's technical development center (TDC) and manufacturing center of excellence (MCOE) in Winona, Minnesota, participants will work on impactful projects in design and development of products within our Industrial Control Systems division. They will have the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world design projects while collaborating closely with mentors and experienced engineers.
Design Engineering Co-Ops will support some or all of the following as related to their engineering major/discipline and Co-Op projects:
Design and development of new products or redesigns of existing products (i.e. controllers, sensors, control systems).
Conduct experiments to aid design.
Investigate paths to utilize automation to reduce development time.
Build prototypes and participate in prototype design reviews.
Complete reliability, experimental, and validation testing and evaluate results for new or existing products.
Evaluate products for functionality enhancements and/or cost improvements.
Work within a cross-functional team to gain exposure to other design engineering disciplines, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain functions.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering.
Completed a minimum of two years of a bachelor's degree program in one of the above engineering majors.
Good written and verbal communication
Available to work full-time in Spring 2026 - Summer OR Fall 2026 in Watlow's Winona, MN, location.

The Project Engineer will assist in the design, planning, coordination, and execution of assigned engineering projects. This role involves working closely with senior engineers, leadership team members, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. The ideal candidate should have a solid foundation in engineering principles, excellent communication skills, and a keen willingness to learn and grow in a team environment. The position will direct high level engineering analysis and design of new and modified components and subsystems in accordance with engineering standards and project scope to ensure that designs meet customer requirements, company objectives, are safe, and can be manufactured.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Support: Assist in the preparation and maintenance of project plans, drawings, schedules, and budgets. Support senior engineers and leadership team members in coordinating tasks and ensuring project milestones are met. Research and analyze design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. Support the production of prototypes for new projects and assist with pre-production planning (3P) activities prior to launch of production. Engineer project(s) within a design and development program and within a manufacturing environment. Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the production process through a formal Engineering Change process.
Documentation: Prepare and manage gated project documentation, including reports, drawings, and technical specifications. Ensure all project-related documents are up-to-date and properly archived.
Technical Assistance: Provide technical support to the project team, including conducting research, analyzing data, and assisting in problem-solving activities.
Site Visits: Participate in site visits to monitor progress, ensure compliance with safety standards, and support on-site project activities as needed.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive operational improvements. Deploy strong organizing & planning skills to maximize cross-functional effectiveness. Act as a liaison between various stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and suppliers. Facilitate clear and effective communication to ensure project objectives are understood and met.
Process Improvement: Analyze current manufacturing processes and review KPI trends to identify areas for improvement. Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to optimize process efficiencies and material flow and reduce waste. Update, develop and document Standard Work for new and existing processes to enhance product quality and OEE. Set up and maintain a robust archive system for production-related documents using a PDM system. Identify and log opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs to improve profitability.
Quality Control: Assist in monitoring and ensuring that all project deliverables meet the required quality standards. Support in conducting inspections and quality assurance activities.
Procurement: Assist in the procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring that all purchases comply with project specifications and budget constraints.
Reporting: Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior engineers and leadership, highlighting key issues, risks, and achievements.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL TRAITS
Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field).
2-5 years or more of experience in an engineering role or internship experience in a related field.
Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit or similar). Basic understanding of project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
Working knowledge and experience within an ERP/MRP system. Experience with system integration process a plus.
