The Department of Neurology at Nemours Children's Health in Wilmington, Delaware seeks a motivated Research Scientist (tenure-track Assistant Professor equivalent) to be part of the highly collaborative and growing Neuroscience Center at Nemours. Applicants must hold a PhD or MD/PhD degree with significant postdoctoral research experience and demonstrated excellence in neuroscience.
The Research Scientist will be responsible for the planning and execution of a wide range of research projects to develop and oversee an independent research program. Research activities include designing and fostering collaborative and independent research projects related to neuroscience and neurologic disease, supervision of postdoctoral associates, technicians and students, obtaining and coordinating external funding, and disseminating research in the form of manuscripts and conference presentations. Must hold academic rank (Assistant Professor) at one of Nemours' partner academic institutions at the time of accepting the position or immediately thereafter. The individual within this position will work with other members of the New Protein and Technology group, across the Global Protein Discovery department, and other cross-functional teams to develop and move projects forward using both internal and external resources that best suit the project in question.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive evaluations of proteins and opportunities both within Grifols' therapeutic areas of interest and also those that fall outside the company's primary therapeutic areas. This will involve a deep understanding of protein function and disease pathobiology, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge to the identification and development of novel therapies using those proteins.
The individual will be responsible for steering the direction of these projects, involving active participation in and leadership of the research design and execution of projects. A DAY IN THE LIFE
The FTIR Analytical Scientist will perform in-field FTIR-based testing of a variety of emission sources while directly interacting with clientele. The FTIR Analytical Scientist must be a detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to work both independently and in a team atmosphere.
The following list is not exhaustive but includes many of the duties and responsibilities of the FTIR Analytical Scientist:
* Independently plan, execute, and oversee in-field FTIR-based stack testing projects, adapting methodologies and troubleshooting complex issues
* Independently set up, operate, maintain, and perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of analytical testing equipment
* Record, analyze, and interpret complex data and field notes, proactively communicating critical process details and findings to supervisors and clients
* Independently troubleshoot and resolve complex analytical instrumentation and sampling equipment issues, coordinating with vendors or specialists when necessary
* Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers during in-field testing projects, building strong relationships and providing expert guidance
* Independently perform in-lab FTIR sample analyses, develop and validate calibrations, and ensure data quality
* Champion the safety culture, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and actively identifying and mitigating hazards
* Work with a high degree of accuracy, safety, and efficiency on complex analytical tasks and field projects
* Develop and lead comprehensive Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) at the jobsite, ensuring team understanding and compliance
* Ensure proper maintenance and use of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) within the team
* Drive a company tow vehicle in a Commercial Vehicle Driver (CMV) capacity to transport the mobile lab and test equipment to the job site as needed
* Lead the development and writing of Standard Operating Procedures and contribute to method validation
* Independently perform data processing, quality control, and write comprehensive technical reports
* Ensure job sites are clean, organized and safe, proactively addressing potential hazards and directing team members as needed
* Lead and participate in training programs for career development, safety, and maintaining required certifications, actively mentoring Field Scientists and Sr. Field Scientists
* Ensure timely and accurate submission of time sheets by themselves and potentially oversee team submissions

YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
* 3-5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in an analytical laboratory or field-testing setting, with significant expertise in FTIR-based testing and project management
* Bachelor's degree in science or engineering, chemistry preferred
* Capacity for overnight and local travel for multi-weekday projects 50%-75% of the time or more
* Flexibility is a must as the position may require weekend travel or work for a few projects during the year

The Associate Scientist will support early-phase development of oral solid dosage (OSD) formulations, including tablets, capsules, and granules. This individual will be responsible for formulation and process development, manufacture of development and stability batches, and execution of analytical testing to support preclinical and clinical programs. The role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for hands-on laboratory work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
Performs activities related to the development of OSD formulations, including powder blends, granules, tablets, and capsules for early-phase drug development.
Manufactures laboratory-scale development and stability batches (non-GMP and GLP) to enable lead formulation selection and toxicology studies.
Utilizes technologies such as dry blending, wet granulation, roller compaction, encapsulation, and tablet compression to develop robust formulations.
Conducts in-process and finished product analytical testing (e.g., appearance, weight, hardness, friability, disintegration, dissolution, and assay).
Assists in compatibility and preformulation studies (e.g., excipient screening, moisture uptake, and blend uniformity assessments).
Generates development protocols, technical reports, and data summaries for internal review and client communication.
Demonstrates sound understanding of fundamental scientific principles in formulation, physical chemistry, and pharmaceutics.
Generates comprehensive development protocols and reports for customers and peers.
Maintains a high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.
Participates in scientific conferences and contributes to scientific journals.
Updates all stability tables and maintains organized product records.
Maintains working knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, and scientific methodologies necessary to perform assigned tasks.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field, 1-2 years of experience preferred, or a Master's degree in a related field.

Appointment Description
This is an early career Fellowship experience. Applicants should have received their doctoral degree not more than 3 years prior to applying for the Fellowship.
While receiving training under supervision, the Post-doctoral Fellow:
* Provides general counseling including individual, relationship and group therapy and crisis intervention.
* Manages client caseload.
* Maintains appropriate clinical and administrative records.
