• Experience in working in Biosafety Level-2 (BSL-2) laboratory environment, proficiency in standard cell- and molecular-biological techniques, and advanced optical microscopy.
• Strong communication skills, enthusiasm to lead independent and manage collaborative interdisciplinary research, develop grant proposals, and the ability and willingness to mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

A full-time research scientist is sought for the lab of Dr. Jenny Munson at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech. The Munson lab is an interdisciplinary research group of engineers and biologists that study the impact of fluid flow in glioblastoma. Specifically, the project will involve the oversight and creative development of a translational study examining the glioblastoma microenvironment. This translational study will utilize patient tissues in established pre-clinical in vitro model systems and histological tissue analyses to generate data for correlation with patient clinical data. The FTIR Analytical Scientist will perform in-field FTIR-based testing of a variety of emission sources while directly interacting with clientele. The FTIR Analytical Scientist must be a detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to work both independently and in a team atmosphere.

Identify and assess Indigenous material culture, situating objects within appropriate geographic, cultural, and chronological contexts through analysis of materials, forms, styles, and related archival documentation.

Projects in the lab include understanding how proprioceptive information is relayed to the brain to integrate with motor planning, examining how neural circuits integrate wing and leg proprioceptive information in the insect CNS, and exploring how vibration sensing via the legs mediates courtship and other behaviors. The Virginia Tech Physics Department invites applications for one postdoctoral associate/research scientist to work with Dr. Vsevolod Ivanov and Dr. Patrick Huber on the Quantum Sensing of Neutrinos (QuSen) project sponsored by DARPA. The successful candidate will conduct research in the areas of computational physics with the goal to develop a framework for understanding excess energy from defect formation in neutrino detectors. Duties may include supervising and coordinating the work of other researchers and personnel, including graduate and undergraduate students, as well as developing future efforts. The successful candidate will be based in Blacksburg, VA, but may be required to travel for conference presentations and international collaboration.
Successful candidates at the Research Scientist level will have additional responsibilities with mentoring junior group members, as well as assisting the PIs with grant proposals.
