The Safety Specialist 1 will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects. + Assists in the investigation of project-related accidents. Confers with supervisor to determine root cause and discuss recommendations for changes in the work processes to eliminate recurrence.
+ Coordinates with injured employees and clinics to ensure that the worker attends treatment and is returned to work at some capacity in a timely manner. Compiles progress summary reports of injuries for supervisor.

The Opportunity

What you'll do
• Provide occupational health & safety leadership, guidance and mentoring for area personnel
• Assist in the development and implementation of employee health and safety programs
• Develop health & safety plans, injury prevention programs, specialty training materials and related actions to mitigate risks identified or related to incidents, regulatory events, hazard advisories, best practices and facility projects

• Interface with regulators and external visitors during onsite inspections
• Assist in the implementation of emergency management programs
• Maintain Incident Command System (ICS) minimum qualifications in order to serve as onsite Safety Officer (SOFR) in the event of a significant incident
• Conduct regular field visits to station/pipeline work sites to ensure health and safety standards are maintained and supported

Minimum Qualifications
• Post-secondary education in health and safety, OH&S Certification or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 6 years of related H&S work experience in oil and gas or pipeline operational experience (e.g., upstream, midstream or downstream operations)
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Strong technical safety expertise (safety management systems, hazard identification, incident investigations, emergency preparedness and response, etc.)
• Proven knowledge of applicable provincial and federal legislation

Job Description:
Training and Development: Conduct driver training on safety procedures as needed, promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization
Insurance Management: Handle all insurance claims against the company. Handle all w/c claims. Maintain record keeping for accidents, injuries, DOT related items, and other safety related matters.

Knowledge Management

Qualifications
Education and Certifications
Bachelor's degree in food science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
FDA Food Facility Registration knowledge
FSMA Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) Rule understanding
PCQI certification required; additional quality or food safety certifications preferred.
Experience
Minimum 8 years' experience in food safety, quality assurance, or related roles within the food or agricultural industry

LOCATION: This is a traveling position requiring frequent travel to project sites across the Midwest Construction region. Per diem will be provided.
ABOUT THE JOB
The Tepa Companies are seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer to support a historical rehabilitation project within Hot Springs National Park. As the SSHO, you will be responsible for managing, communicating, implementing, and enforcing compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) EM 385-1-1, Tepa's Accident Prevention Plan and other accepted safety and health submittals.
Job Functions:
* Performs tasks specific to contract task orders on-site at all times during the performance of all work.
* Makes binding decisions on Tepa's behalf.
* Implements project safety processes as stipulated by the approved Health and Safety Plan, Accident Prevention Plan, and Activity Hazard Analyses.
* Conducts daily, weekly and/or monthly safety briefings, as required.
* Conducts daily and monthly site safety audits.
* Fills out or obtains daily work permits such as but not limited to confined space, hot work, safe work or dig permits
* Works with Project Manager to obtain safety certifications for subcontractor employees on various tasks such as but not limited to fall protection, confined space entry/attendant, trenching, equipment operations, asbestos and lead abatement.
* Documents competent persons on site for each scope of work.
* Makes decisions to amend activity hazard analysis to reflect any field changes on project sites.
* Implements reporting procedures in the event of an incident or accident.
* Investigates and evaluates incidents/accidents to determine procedural changes necessary to preclude recurrence.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
* High School Diploma or General Education Diploma
* 5+ years of continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising/managing general construction (managing safety programs or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls)
* OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety & Health training within the last 5 years
* OSHA 30-hour General Industry Safety & Health training
* Formal construction or industry safety and health training covering the subjects in USACE EM 385-1-1
* Intermediate proficiency in ProCore, BlueBeam, Microsoft Word and Excel
* Intermediate proficiency in oral and written communication
* Intermediate proficiency in problem solving
