Job Responsibilities
Perform pre-trip inspection on equipment in alignment with MPC policy and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Check tank truck/trailer or tractor/trailer for general operating requirements and make sure that all required equipment is available and in good operating condition. Note inspection and deficiencies on the pre-trip inspection form.
Drive a tank truck/trailer or tractor/trailer to transport product in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. Obey all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Follow MPC and site specific standard operating procedures for the loading and offloading process.
Perform post-trip inspection on equipment in alignment with MPC policy and DOT regulations. Complete all regulatory and customary paperwork. Ensure equipment is ready for the next shift.
Communicate all incidents, including safety and environmental concerns, according to company procedures.
Report all equipment issues in a timely manner.
Follow, maintain, and adhere to all safety rules and operating procedures, including all DOT regulations.
Physical Requirements Include
Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
Must be able to work on elevated spaces: 30+ feet on graded elevation.
Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, and/or pull 50-65 lbs.

ROLE AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The bus driver is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students over specific routes in accordance with established projected driving times and route schedules. Responsible for working with parents/guardians, teachers and staff in the assigned area of responsibility to ensure the safe pickup and drop off of students at designated locations.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
Drives the school bus in accordance with district standards and the State of Michigan traffic ordinances to ensure that students are transported in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsible for loading and unloading students and coordinating the activity with the assistance of parents/guardians, staff and the transportation aide, as appropriate.
Operates and is responsible for working with the transportation aide to ensure the safe operation of the wheelchair lift.
Responsible for working with the transportation aide and district employees to meet the individual medical, safety and behavioral needs of the students being transported, including oral and tracheal suctioning, crisis prevention intervention, Diastat and other required procedures as identified in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Ensures that wheelchairs are locked down and secure in accordance with district procedures.
Ensures with the transportation aide, that other equipment used to transport special education students is properly secured before moving the bus to provide for the safety of students.
Maintains the following school bus driver skills and demonstrates satisfactory performance of these skills:
Starting the engine.
Turning corners and curves.
Starting from a stopped position on an upgrade.
Backing and steering.
Signaling for turns and stops and for overtaking slower moving vehicles.
Showing judgment in driving according to road, traffic and weather conditions.
Maneuvering bus in limited quarters in order to:
Park parallel and diagonally, pull out of a parking space and back into or out of a parking space.
Turn bus around in a limited area.
Pull off road into a loading zone and return to the roadway.
Position bus for loading students at the school.
Operate the vehicle without assistance.
Completes and documents the pre- and post-checklist which includes inspecting the bus lights, brakes, turn signals, gas, oil and tires in accordance with district standards.
Fuels the bus in accordance with district procedures.
Maintains the appearance of the bus and ensures the interior is clean, the exterior is washed, the back of the bus is clean to ensure that lettering, lights and license plate can be viewed at all times, and windows in the front, back and driver side are clean and clear for maximum visibility.
Reports in writing according to established procedures any needed bus repairs and follows up to ensure that bus repairs are completed in a timely fashion.
Responsible for maintaining discipline of passengers while on the bus and for working with the program staff to maintain discipline in accordance with district procedures.
In cooperation with program staff, implements behavior intervention plans, as appropriate.
Ensures with the transportation aide that students' belongings and materials, including backpacks and medical supplies, are delivered with the students.
Demonstrates proper fire drill procedures, evacuation of the bus and the proper use of fire extinguishers, flares and other safety equipment.
Maintains a master route book and immediately reports and notes all changes in routes.
Prepares reports when necessary involving personnel, student and staff incidents and vehicle accidents, including broken glass and other equipment.
Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties:
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to secure and maintain required licenses and certifications through the State of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Education. Ability to pass a physical examination and a drug test required. Valid Michigan Driver's License required with no points preferred. Maintain a personal telephone to ensure communication with district personnel. Ability to participate in and successfully complete 15 hour district-sponsored transportation training program. Ability to participate in and successfully complete First Aid, Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Bloodborne Pathogen, behavior intervention, and hazardous materials training required. Other required training may include oral and tracheal suctioning, crisis prevention intervention and Diastat.
Experience:
Prefer candidates with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a minimum “B” classification,
“P” passenger, “S” school bus and air brake endorsements and experience transporting Special Education students.
Skills/Other:
Maintains a positive working relationship with transportation aides, parents/guardians and staff. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Michigan vehicle code and school bus safety policies and procedures. Works to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology, assistive technology and/or the needs of the district. Exhibits emotional stability and physical stamina necessary to lift, move and position special education students ages 0-26 years and to perform the essential duties of the job. Exhibits self-control, mature judgment, congeniality and ethical standards in all working relationships. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work a flexible workday and work week. Strong teamwork, interpersonal communication and problem solving skills. Discretion with confidential information. Exercises good judgment and makes decisions in accordance with the State of Michigan vehicle code, CDL requirements, board policies and established administrative guidelines.

Scope: The School Bus Aide is knowledgeable of the school routes, remains alert to monitor the welfare of passengers, and communicates behavior issues and conditions with the bus driver.
Essential Functions:
Assists in the safe transportation of passengers.
Assists in performing pre/post trip vehicle inspections; notifies manager of any concerns.
Assists students in the loading and unloading process; utilizes steps multiple times daily.
Regularly communicates with passengers and bus drivers.
Enforces school system student conduct rules while on route; reports problems to manager.
Adhere to company policies and procedures including local, state and federal laws and regulations. Attend safety, training and informational meetings.
Familiar of school bus routes and remains alert to monitor welfare of passengers.
Conduct emergency evacuation drills including use of exiting by emergency door and assisting in opening and closing the service door.
May assist driver, when necessary, to safely direct the vehicle backwards.
Always adhere to FERPA regulations and remain confidential.
Performs other duties as assigned. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Requirements
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Valid Driver License required.
Subject to Background Check and Drug Screen.
Two (2) years working with children preferred.
Good verbal communication skills with a strong attendance record.
Good with children of all ages and the ability to manager stressful situations.
Early morning and afternoon availability preferred but not required.

Physical Demands:
The following physical demands are occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. Job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. Employee regularly required to see, talk and hear; Must be able to lift up-to 15 pounds at a time.

Job DescriptionDescription:
Assists students riding on school buses en route to and from school; and performs related duties as required.
Responsibilities:
Assist students with entering or exiting the bus in a safe manner
Seat students safely using needed seat belts, car seats or wheelchair restraints, etc.
Serve as a role model for students in demonstrating a positive attitude, good moral character, and integrity
Monitor passengers at all times to ensure safety regulations and student conduct rules are followed
Physically assist passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of emergency
Ensure that children take their belongings with them when leaving the bus
Assist Driver in keeping the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable
Present a neat and professional appearance at all times
Report to duty on time and perform all responsibilities in a safe manner
Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings

Body Mechanics of a School Bus Aide
School Bus Attendants are required through their employment to perform various tasks. These physical tasks require varying degrees of lifting, pulling, bending and carrying of heavy objects.
Some examples of these are:
Opening and closing of bus entrance and emergency doors.
Bending, pushing and pulling to load and unload a wheelchair, with or without a passenger, onto a lift platform, by exerting a maximum of 40 lb. of push / pull pressure.
Bending, supporting and otherwise physically helping passengers into and out of a school bus.
Carrying and lifting into and from the school bus, personal articles and adaptive equipment of various weights and sizes.
Bending and stretching for the cleaning and securement of equipment in the interior of the school bus.
Bend, stretch, pull and drag all persons, equipment or other types of articles that would be of varying sizes and weight out of emergency exits on demand.
