Overview

Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and FASB guidelines for nonprofits, including fund accounting and restricted fund management.
Support the Controller and CFO in developing financial reports for the Board of Directors, management, and external stakeholders.
Analyze financial results and provide actionable insights to support programmatic decision-making and organizational strategy.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of donor-restricted funds and provide reporting to donors and grantors as required.
2. Accounting Operations
Oversee all general ledger functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end closing processes.
Manage key accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and expense reimbursements.
Monitor and reconcile restricted and unrestricted net assets, ensuring proper allocation of funds and compliance with donor intent.
Ensure accuracy and integrity of accounting data in the organization's ERP or accounting system.
Improve efficiency of processes and systems to support a growing and complex global organization.
3. Compliance, Audit & Risk Management
Prepare for and coordinate annual financial statement audits.
Assist with timely filing of tax and regulatory reports, including IRS Form 990, 990-T, and state filings.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and nonprofit compliance requirements.
Strengthen internal controls to protect organizational assets and ensure accountability for donor funds.
4. Leadership & Team Development
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional growth and a strong team culture.
Collaborate with program, development, and operations teams to align financial processes with programmatic goals.
Provide training and support to staff on compliance with finance and accounting policies.
5. Strategic Support
Assist the Controller and CFO in budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

Qualifications
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA certification preferred.
Experience

Role Summary
The SeniorAccountant is responsible for owning the accuracy, integrity, and scalability of Clear Group's financial reporting across multiple entities. This role sits at the center of accounting operations, bridging day-to-day transaction accuracy with higher-level financial clarity, controls, and forward-looking insight. This is not a bookkeeping role. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands construction accounting, intercompany complexity, and how to build systems that scale. Initially, the role may function as a SeniorAccountant with expanded responsibility. Over time, it is expected to evolve into a full Controller role as Clear Group continues to grow. This role is a full-time on-site position in our Santa Barbara, CA, office.
Core Responsibilities
Core Accounting and Close
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across all Clear Group entities
Ensure timely and accurate financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting practices across the organization
Reconcile all balance sheet accounts, including:
WIP / Construction in Progress
Costs in Excess / Billings in Excess
Retainage receivable and payable
Intercompany balances
Prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, and depreciation
Construction Accounting and WIP
Manage Work-In-Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition
Coordinate closely with operations and project management to validate job cost accuracy
Ensure consistency between project systems (e.g., Procore) and the general ledger (Sage Intacct)
Identify and flag margin erosion, cost overruns, and billing issues early, not after the fact
Multi-Entity and Intercompany Accounting
Oversee accounting for multiple operating entities and a parent holding company
Manage intercompany transactions, allocations, and eliminations
Ensure consistent chart of accounts, accounting policies, and reporting standards across entities
Support consolidation and entity-level performance analysis
Systems, Controls and Process Improvement
Own and continuously improve Sage Intacct configuration and workflows
Design and implement internal controls appropriate for a growing organization
Reduce manual work through better systems, automation, and process design
Partner with leadership on integrating financial data with operational systems and reporting tools
Leadership and Collaboration
Serve as the primary accounting partner to executive leadership
Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
Provide clear, direct explanations of financial results (no accounting jargon)
Help set standards and expectations for accounting discipline across the organization
