Kodiak is seeking a resourceful individual with broad knowledge and understanding of HVAC and related systems to join our team as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will be responsible for performing a wide range of HVAC activities for commercial and industrial customers. We are looking for someone who can contribute, grow, think, and create.
This is not a remote position. Candidates must live within a reasonable commute distance to our office in Tacoma, WA (or plan to relocate prior to hire date).
SALARY RANGE: $150,000 to $165,000 per year
JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)
Work with Sales and Project Managers to provide timely field-related design solutions for our customers
Analyze customer specifications and performance requirements to determine mechanical designs
Assist with budgets, pre-contract designs and presentations
Active participant in all aspects of system design process: research, design, load calculations for system sizing, layout, sizing of components, equipment selection
Manage projects with both internal and external deadlines and changing time constraints
Design all details for construction required elements for installation
Assure all code requirements are met providing necessary information for permit application
Produce O&M's, Commissioning and other documents required for project communication and completion
Perform site surveys as required to verify details necessary for complete and accurate design
Monitor design standards and implement/practice quality control
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Three years related experience in HVAC or construction industry
Related experience in plumbing design preferred, but not required
Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, CAD, Revit a plus

Familiarity with HVAC principles and technical applications
Ability to comprehend and implement applicable HVAC related federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations
Read, analyze, and interpret information including blueprints, drawings, and equipment specifications

Minimum Qualifications
* 5+ years experience in Mechanical Design Engineering and with experience in Machine Design

* Supporting prototype fabrication and builds: Working with internal/external partners to support part fabrication and robot builds, fixtures and assembly tooling design, assembly procedures

You will oversee the design, management, and technical aspects of the projects from concept through construction administration, ensuring that all designs meet the highest standards of quality and performance. You will leverage your deep expertise in architectural design and construction to resolve complex technical issues and deliver successful project outcomes. Your leadership, collaboration, and mentoring skills will be key to nurturing the talents of junior staff and driving the success of the studio.
What You Will Do
* Participate in all phases of design
* Collaborate with design team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies and other vendors to meet overall project objectives
* Manage project team and coordination of consultants
* Take ownership of financial cycles by managing client follow-up, calendars, deadlines, meetings
* Oversight of innovative design strategies and unique brand concepts on multiple projects
* Work on new business proposals/presentations
* Write and edit project communications for project teams such as scope and fee documents, meeting minutes, work plans, budgets and schedules
* Understand key aspects of studio business and proactively develop ways to create better client engagements, people-centric approaches, and project efficiencies
* Produce BIM models and construction drawings
* Resolve challenging technical and design issues with the team to produce innovative, technical and constructible solutions

Your Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited school
* Licensure required
* 10+ years of experience in the profession of architectural design
* Experience within Critical Facilities preferred
* Strong experience working with Revit and Rhino
* Proficiency with SketchUp, 3D Max, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred, but not required
* Experience managing multiple aspects of client, team, and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, and civil consultants
* Experience working directly with contractors
* Experience resolving complex technical and design issues
* Experience performing zoning and code analysis in multiple jurisdictions
* Understanding of how buildings are constructed, along with the ability to create technical documents that succinctly, thoroughly, and accurately describe the work to be done
* Strong leadership, organizational, communication and relationship management skills
* Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices required.

The base salary will be estimated between $113,000 - $150,000. Gensler's total compensation package is multi-layered and includes a base salary, two annual bonuses paid in December and June, an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and profit sharing.
